Story
Hi my name is Galaxy.  I am as beautiful and radiant as the entire galaxy. I am a little bit on the  reserved side and wait my her turn for snuggles and pets if my brothers and sisters are around.  My foster mom always gets to me and I am not always last.  She makes sure that I know how much I am loved.  I am a very friendly and loving girl.  I am a true lady.  I know how to wait and am not pushy at all.  I love to quietly explore the house and find treasures that my siblings miss.  I love being with them but am also content to be by myself as long as there are people around.  I would rather recieve loving from them.  If you have a lot of love to give I know who you can shower it on.  ME!!  Please consider adding me to your family.  I have been spayed, am current on all my shots, FIV negative, and microchipped.  To be considered for my forever family and to request an application please contact Vivienne at vivienneajames@gmail.com.  APPROVED APPLICATION AND ADOPTION FEE REQUIRED.  (I am currently in Tennessee and can be transported north upon adoption.)January 14, 2026, 11:15 am

Story
Do you have a business or property where a cat can live an outdoor lifestyle with a safe place to eat, sleep, and settle in? Meet Grumpy, one of our working cats. He`s part of our Working Cat program because he’s best suited for a more independent setup than a typical indoor pet home. Working cats fall all over the spectrum—some are fairly social, some prefer to keep their distance; some are very “on the job,” serving as a natural deterrent for the small critters that sometimes find their way into barns, shops, outbuildings, or other outdoor spaces. What all working cats share is that they’re looking for a home that respects their pace and doesn’t expect them to be cuddly or constantly engaged. Here at the shelter, Grumpy is definitely living up to his name. The shelter environment is stressful for this poor fella, and he’s clearly unhappy being confined. In a working cat home, he’ll have the space and routine to decompress, settle in, and decide how much interaction he wants—on his timeline. If you’re new to working cats, we’ll help set you up for success with information on how to get him established safely, what supplies you’ll need, and how to support a smooth transition.Grumpy is located at our Michael R. Frey – West Ox Campus, 4500 West Ox Road, Fairfax, VA. We are open Tuesdays and Wednesdays 12–5 p.m., Thursdays and Fridays 12–7 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays 11 a.m.–5 p.m. For more information on our adoption process, including requirements and fees, visit:www.fairfaxcounty.gov/animalshelter/adopt

Story
Do you own a barn, stable, or just have a lot of land? Looking for someone to help you keep it looking tidy and pest free? Then meet Tiger Bone, one of our working cats! Tiger Bone is what we call a working cat because they do just that, work! Working cats have more of a rough and tumble personality and prefer to be outdoors doing their job than indoors getting pets. They prefer the company of other animals to humans and like to approach people at their own pace. We recommend a slow introduction to any other working cats to make sure they get along. Although they do not enjoy being cuddled by their humans, they love to assist them by helping catch any pests. Tiger Bone is looking for a home/owner who can utilize her special set of skills. Sound like the cat for you? Stop by today! If you’d like to meet our available animals, please check the “shelter information” box on the listing to see if the pet is located at our Fairfax Campus (4500 West Ox Road, Fairfax) or our Lorton Campus (8875 Lorton Road, Lorton). Then, come in during our open hours! Both of our locations are open Tuesdays and Wednesdays 12-5 p.m., Thursdays and Fridays 12-7 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays 11 a.m.-5 p.m. For more information on our adoption process, including requirements and fees, visit: www.fairfaxcounty.gov/animalservices/adopt
