Hi there… my name is Baked Potato. I know it’s a funny name, but honestly it fits me pretty well. I’m soft, warm, comforting, and once you get to know me, I’m the kind of little soul that just makes you feel better. I’m about 9 years old, a handsome Turkish Van mix, and I’ve been through a bit of a rough patch in life before finding my way to safety. When I first arrived at the DCAS, I wasn’t feeling very good at all. They helped me get through being pretty sick but I needed more medical help than they could give me there, so the kind people at Whiskers brought me into their program. Since then, I’ve had a full mouth extraction to get rid of my painful teeth, a polyp removed from my ear, cytology and senior bloodwork. I have a little scar on my eye from an old injury. It might make me look a little different, but I promise it doesn’t stop me from loving life now that I finally feel better. The truth is, I’m just really grateful to be safe. I love gentle pets, soft places to rest, and people who talk to me sweetly. I’ve discovered that being loved is actually pretty wonderful, and I’m hoping my human is out there waiting to spoil me the way every good comfort food deserves. They have had dentals, senior bloodwork and Bella has been grroomed! Bella does have one special consideration: she is diabetic. The good news is that she is beautifully regulated and does wonderfully with her care routine. She receives insulin twice daily and is an absolute superstar when it comes to glucose testing. Her care is much simpler and more affordable than many people expect, with her insulin costing approximately $20 every six weeks. She enjoys a primarily canned food diet with just a small measured amount of crunchies each day and is thriving. If you've never cared for a diabetic cat before, don't let that scare you away. Whiskers is happy to provide hands-on training and ongoing support to ensure you feel comfortable and confident. We promise it's much easier than it sounds! To make life even easier, Bella and Guinness will come with a microchip-activated feeder so Guinness can continue enjoying his beloved crunchies while Bella stays on her carefully managed diet.
