Story
Meet Star – the German Short Haired Pointer Boxer mix! This adolescent girl came to the Shelter with her brother (who has since been adopted). She is energetic and would thrive in an active household that will provide daily mental and physical stimulation. If you are looking for a hiking/walking/running buddy – this may be your gal. Star may enjoy a canine companion in her next home. Any resident dogs should meet at the Shelter prior to adoption. The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering “Pawsitivity Bucks” with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw! Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.

Story
Meet Bluebelle the Catahoula! Bluebelle has history living with children under 12 years, teenagers, men and women. Bluebelle’s favorite activities in her previous home include running, walks and playing with other dogs. She also enjoys squeaky toys and balls. Bluebelle, like many other dogs, is afraid of fireworks. She finds car rides a little naseauting (literally, sometimes she throws up) so adopters should be mindful of how closely she eats before a car ride and/or work with their veterinarian to help provide Bluebelle with some support to make car rides more comfortable. Bluebelle knows “sit” and “shake”. She has lived with chickens previously and would chase and pin them down if she had access to them. If there are chickens in her next home, they should be securely kept separate from Bluebelle for everyone’s safety. The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering “Pawsitivity Bucks” with every dog adoption. Story
MEET LITTLE DUDE & PRINCE! This very unusual bonded pair of seniors lost their home in 2022, when the landlord said they had to go, for no fault of their own. They need a foster or forever home and have patiently waited for some wonderful person or people to adopt them. Little Dude is an 11-year-old pointer/pit mix, sweet as can be. He weighs about 60 lbs. Prince is a 14-year-old Pomeranian mix, and he is good with other dogs, though he is starting to get dementia. Prince weighs about 25 lbs. They are both people friendly, but Little Dude only wants to be with Prince -- so they need a home together as the only pets if possible. They are gentle, loving dogs who deserve a second chance in life with people who will love them through the rest of their years. They really need a home now! They are in good health and happy, and would do well with a single person, a couple or a family with older kids. Please email for an application. We are looking for a foster or forever home for this wonderful pair.
