WEACT visited the Wanju Animal Shelter for the second phase of rescues as part of the Save us Project (Monthly Sponsorship), which aims to give new lives to dogs facing euthanasia. On the day of our visit, we were overwhelmed with shock. The shelter's exterior, barely held together by tarps, looked more like a prison than a kennel. Inside, large dogs were tethered to short leashes in cramped spaces, each struggling to survive. These dogs had been living for years on just a 50cm-long leash. While they were able to eat and drink enough to survive, there was no sign of a life worth living for these animals. WEACT rescued five dogs suffering in the cold winter, including #weact_boa, from the Wanju Shelter.

Hi there! This is Luna, a Westie/Dachshund mix (we think) that was about to be surrendered to a high-kill shelter in Los Angeles. Her owner was dealing with housing issues and did not speak English. Luna was given to him - he did not buy or adopt her himself. He agreed to let me take her to try and find her a loving home. He said she is good with all people and dogs. She is young and likes to play a lot. Very social and enjoys walking to try and meet new friends, though she did growl at one dog on our walk. She met a husky today that she liked! She is SO sweet with us and loves to cuddle, shows her belly a lot for belly rubs. She follows us throughout the house and is learning basic commands. She is not 100% housebroken and will need to be taught not to pee indoors and she does have a bit of food guarding against other dogs. She lets me touch her food with no problem, but not other dogs. I'm taking her to get her shots tomorrow and planning to spay her soon!

Rubie is a beautiful Westie/Poodle mix, about 9 years old and weighs about 16 lbs. Her previous owners dumped her at a high kill shelter with major medical issues. The shelter took care of a mass removal that she had, along with a hernia and her spay. She had surgery for the cherry eye and has fully recovered. She is doing great at her Foster home, she loves to cuddle and go on walks, follows her Foster Mom around and likes her belly rubbed. She absolutely LOVES car rides, gets along with other dogs and kids. Rubie is up to date on vaccines, spayed and microchipped.
