Rescued from the shelter, he arrived shy and unsure, but in a remarkably short time he has blossomed into a loving, affectionate little companion with a huge heart and an even bigger cuddle game.   Flicker’s days follow a nice, predictable routine that helps him feel secure. He wakes up around 7am and goes straight outside to pee and poop, then happily heads back in for another nap until about 9am, when he eats his first meal of the day. Late morning brings a longer walk around 11am, followed by a shorter potty walk around 4pm (where he reliably poops again). Flicker is very food-motivated, so he earns a small treat after walks, which he finds extremely motivating. One of his cutest quirks is that after every walk, he patiently waits at the door and offers his paws so they can be wiped — a routine he has already mastered.   During the day, Flicker free-roams the apartment with the resident dog. You’ll usually find them napping together on the couch or dog beds. Flicker is also comfortable settling in his x-pen or crate and goes down for naps easily. When he’s awake, he’s wonderful at self-soothing: he’ll entertain himself with toys, happily chew on a chew stick, work on enrichment toys, or wander over to his humans for some snuggles. Dinner is around 6pm, followed by quick potty walks at 8pm and again around 11pm. At night, Flicker sleeps in his crate in the bedroom, sleeps through the night, and sometimes snores just a little.   When Flicker first arrived, he was extremely nervous and timid. The outside world — especially busy streets, cars, and unfamiliar noises — felt overwhelming, and he would tremble and try to hide. With patience, reassurance, and positive experiences, his confidence has grown dramatically in just a couple of weeks. Now, he’s curious and wants to sniff and explore on walks, even though loud or unexpected noises can still make him pause. The wonderful thing is that he no longer shakes or panics, and he recovers quickly with gentle encouragement.   Personality-wise, Flicker is an absolute love bug. He is very affectionate, adores belly rubs, gives sweet kisses, and has a habit of gazing lovingly into your eyes. He loves to cuddle and prefers to be close to his people, but he is not demanding — when humans are busy, he’s perfectly content entertaining himself. He gets short bursts of zoomies once or twice a day and enjoys tug games and treat-based play, but overall he’s more of a couch potato who loves napping beside his humans or the resident dog.   Flicker lives with a calm 35 lb resident dog and clearly takes comfort in canine companionship. He follows the other dog around, watches everything he does, and is gaining confidence from that presence. He’s still learning how to play appropriately and can be a bit clumsy, sometimes jumping without realizing where his body is, but his intentions are gentle and sweet.   On leash, Flicker does best in quieter, residential areas. If he feels nervous, he may sit and refuse to move, but a soft voice and a little encouragement quickly get him going again. He does not bark at or chase other dogs or animals.   Flicker is making good progress on housetraining. He seems to prefer going potty in the yard rather than out on walks, but will do both.   In terms of behavior, Flicker is very easy to live with. He chews appropriately on toys and chew sticks when bored, is not destructive, and is generally very quiet. He may bark once or twice when he hears delivery people at the door, but otherwise he’s a peaceful presence in the home.   Flicker will thrive with patient, kind adopters who understand that he’s still learning and who will celebrate his brave moments with praise, treats, and affection. He loves cuddling and napping near his people and would make a fantastic companion for someone who wants a sweet, loyal lap dog.   What truly sets Flicker apart is his transformation. In just a short time, he has shown how resilient he is and how deeply he bonds with his people. He is gentle, affectionate, well-mannered, and eager to please. One of his foster’s favorite tricks is pretending to praise the resident dog when Flicker freezes on a walk — Flicker immediately sprints over, not wanting to miss out on any affection. Watching him proudly trot around with a huge chew stick in his mouth is just another reminder of how endearing he is.   Flicker is ready for a home that will continue nurturing his confidence and soaking up all the love he has to give.December 25, 2025, 6:29 pm
