Story
Astor is adorable with a capital "A"! Astor is a scruffy little boy who is estimated to be around 6 years old. He is a little character who is not afraid to ask for what he wants. He loves his people and is pretty darn cute with his little walk and smile. Astor weighs about 9.5lbs. Five years ago Astor was adopted from the YCSPCA by a nice older lady who subsequently moved with Astor into a “pet-friendly” retirement community. Unfortunately, Astor did not adjust well to the move and management there determined that Astor was no longer welcome due to the defensiveness of his owner when the staff came into the apartment. So, sadly, Astor’s mom had to relinquish him so that we could find a home that was a better match for him. He’s been in a foster home since then, hanging out with his foster mom and some doggie roommates. Astor tends to be fearful, perhaps due to negative early life experiences. This causes him to be sensitive about being touched when he isn’t ready to be social. He likes to be petted but can get overstimulated and will communicate when he has had enough. After a visit to the vet, Astor is now on two anti-anxiety meds, which have helped him be much less fearful. He still can be sensitive to handling now and then but is comfortable with his foster mom rubbing his tummy, picking him up, and cuddling him on her lap for a while. Astor needs a peaceful new home that can go slow with him and win his trust so that isn’t afraid and anxious. Astor seems to prefer the company of women and takes more time to warm up to men. He will likely do best if he continues his medications. Astor would be best in an adult-only home. We don’t know how he is with cats since his foster home doesn’t have any, but he could do well living with dog-savvy cats with a slow introduction and proper supervision. Astor would like to be the only dog in his new home. Astor enjoys going for walks and will be patient with having his harness put on if it doesn’t involve a lot of fuss. He could easily keep his harness on all the time since he doesn’t mind it at all. He also likes to play with toys. Astor is house-trained, but like any male dog, it’s best to keep track of him when he’s in the house so he doesn’t mark on furniture. Surprisingly, Astor is a very quiet guy - he’ll bark at strangers at the door or gate, but is otherwise very quiet, unlike some dogs his size. Are you the right family to give Astor a peaceful new home?   Aster's adoption fee is $250.   Apply to adopt here! https://form.jotform.com/52017002013129/  Applications are also available on the website (www.yolospca.org)  It can take up to 3-5 business days to hear back once you have submitted an application. The Yolo County SPCA is a private, not-for-profit, foster home-based animal rescue organization and does not have a shelter. All our animals awaiting adoption are in foster homes. Our adoption fees help us cover the cost of spay/neuter surgery, microchip and registration, and rabies vaccination (if over 4 months of age at intake or spay/neuter) for all animals. Dogs are tested for heartworm and started on preventatives and given a DAPP vaccination. Adult dogs are up to date on their vaccinations prior to adoption. Puppies will be current on the vaccinations appropriate to their age. The adopter is responsible for additional vaccinations as necessary after the adoption. For more information about an animal, please email dogs@yolospca.org. For more general questions, please see our website at www.yolospca.org. April 22, 2024, 10:47 pm

Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee.Adoption Fee: $600   Naples is a 3 year old Westie x Shih Tzu mix who is ready for his next passport stamp: his forever home! Naples came to us from the local shelter. We don’t know how this guy landed in the shelter but we know that his next chapter is bright and will be full of yummy snacks and warm beds. With a fabulous head of hair and a unique looking cute face, Naples will be the Cassanova of every dog park he struts into. Naples has a hair coat but is not hypoallergenic. For those looking for a fun-loving new family member, Naples is ready for action!     Naples is a friendly, toy-loving, and adorable dog with a heart of gold. He is Mr. Independent but also Mr. “Wait Cuddle Me” which makes him a perfect fit for those looking for either a WFH buddy or an adventure buddy. He loves clambering up on the couch for long naps during the day, but is also standing at the door when the leashes come out for walk time. In the evening, his tail is thumping on the couch as he awaits a cuddle marathon. Naples has the perfect temperament in that he is both active and laid back. While he has moments of high energy, he also likes to explore the world at a leisurely pace. He doesn’t so much romp around with the other dogs but they coexist happily.   Naples starts his morning at 6:30 AM with a trip outside for potty before he comes back inside for some more sleep. He has breakfast at around 9 AM and then heads out for his morning walk around the neighborhood. He loves greeting his local canine friends and has a blast. Throughout the day, Naples plays with his foster siblings in the backyard and gets his tan on in the sunshine. In the late afternoon, Naples gets another walk and happily sniffs all the good smells the outdoors has to offer. After he returns, he gets his play on as his dinner is prepared. He loves his collection of toys and happily encourages his foster siblings to play with him. He eats dinner at 6 PM and then engages in more playtime as his foster mom eats. In the evening, Naples gets some cuddles on the couch before he heads to his crate for sleep at 10 PM.  Naples gets along fabulously with the dogs he is living with. They are all bigger than him but this little Napoleon doesn’t let that stop him. Naples walks well on the leash and adores his walk times. His tail wags so fast when the leashes come out! Naples will be such a fabulous addition to whoever is lucky enough to bring him home. If you’re looking for a taste of Italy right here in California, meet Naples!     Naples is an option for homes with prior dog experience. We will consider first-time homes as long as they demonstrate they have done their research on dog ownership. Kids in the home should be over the age of 8.April 29, 2024, 1:43 pm
