Story
Meet Willow — A Sweet, Sensitive Soul Ready to Bloom Willow is a 1.5-year-old, 10-pound white terrier mix with a heart full of love and a playful spirit just waiting to shine. Though timid at first and easily overwhelmed by busy or loud environments, once she feels safe and bonded, she blossoms into a snuggly, affectionate companion who will excitedly jump up for attention and melt into your arms. Her silly and confident side truly comes out when she's with other dogs — she absolutely thrives in the company of playful canine friends. Willow has a strong need to play and would do best in a home with a well-matched, active dog companion and a secure yard where they can run and romp together. She’s dog-door potty trained and enjoys the independence to go outside to play as she pleases. Willow also rides well in the car using a booster seat and walks nicely on leash, especially when she has another dog to follow. Because she can be fearful of children, Willow is best suited for an adult-only home. While she hasn’t lived with cats, we have no reason to believe she wouldn’t do fine with a calm feline friend. Willow will need an adopter who is experienced with nurturing shy or sensitive dogs. Patience, empathy, and positive reinforcement will be essential. A clear post-adoption transition plan tailored to her needs — including time to decompress, daily structure, mental enrichment, and continued socialization — will set her up for success. If you’re ready to earn the trust of a timid pup and watch her blossom into the joyful dog she’s meant to be, Willow may be your perfect match. To begin the adoption process, please submit an application using the link below. Our team will carefully review it to determine if you are a suitable match for the dog you are interested in. If deemed a good fit, the foster parent will reach out to schedule a meet-and-greet or seek additional information. In the event your application isn't accepted or might be a better fit for another dog, we will provide feedback and suggest alternative matches. Your application remains active for 90 days, allowing consideration for other dogs in our care. Simply email us if there is another dog you would like your application to be applied to. [Apply Now](http://form.jotform.com/underdogca/dog-adoption-application) For application forwarding requests or any specific inquiries, you can contact us at adopt@underdogca.com. This email is also the preferred channel for additional information submissions or document uploads. All our dogs undergo comprehensive vetting, including spaying/neutering, microchipping, DHPP, flea treatment, deworming, and Rabies vaccinations. Additional vet care is provided as needed based on their requirements. The adoption fee for this dog is $250 serving as a non-refundable donation. Story
Sparky is a delightful 1.5-year-old Cairn Terrier mix known for his energetic and lovable nature. He greets everyone with a wagging tail and a sparkly personality, making him a joy to be around. Sparky enjoys playing fetch, going on long walks, and spending quality time with his family. He is friendly and social, getting along well with other dogs and children aged 8 and up. As a great walking buddy, he loves outdoor activities and is mostly potty trained, though still improving. Sparky is learning commands like “sit” and “shake” and is very affectionate, enjoying kisses and snuggles. He is doing very well on a mild medication regimen for seizure prevention. While he still has some playful habits, such as nibbling fingers and occasionally ignoring commands, he is a quick learner with patience and training. Sparky is looking for a forever family to share his joyful moments with. Please complete our application on our website, 1luckydogrescue.org or contact Patricia 925-787-5825 for more information. It is helpful if information about the type of home that you will provide is included if emailing us.

Story
Gondo is a darling, middle-aged gentleman with the sweetest soul. This Cairn Terrier / Schnauzer mix brings together the very best of both breeds — a perfect blend of charm, intelligence, and steady companionship. Like a true terrier, Gondo has a quiet confidence and a curious, engaged nature, but he’s long past the busy puppy stage. From his Schnauzer side, he gets his affectionate, people-focused personality and easygoing manners. He enjoys being near his humans, happily soaking up pets and companionship, without demanding constant attention. Gondo is the kind of dog who fits seamlessly into daily life — content on walks, relaxed at home, and always ready to offer gentle affection. If you’re looking for a loyal, calm, and loving companion with just the right amount of terrier sparkle, Gondo may be your perfect match. 💛

Story
Professor Nikidik aka DOC is an 8 yr old, 5 lb Affenpinscher Mix.  He came to us with an eye injury that caused glaucoma to form.  As he is blind in this eye, the best course of action is to remove it because otherwise he would need drops 4 x's a day for life to keep it from becoming painful.  Since he cannot see out of it, that seems absurd and removing it is the best option.  As of 10/1/25, we are pending a surgery date from our vet.  He will be neutered at this time as well. For now, we are only accepting applications from homes who are willing to take him as he is and provide the needed medical care at your own expense.  Once our vet is able to get him scheduled, we will then open up applications to the general public. Neutering is a requirement of adoption and will be contingent on adoption finalization.  As with his breed, he is confident and spicy!  When he loves you he LOOOVVVEESSS you but he can be choosy about who is an instant friend.  Sometimes he requires bribes in the form of treats.  He does not like being grabbed, so we do not recommend him for homes with small children.  Our best estimate is that he would do best with kids 12+ but all kids are different and we are open to discussion.  He has not bitten anyone. Housebroken is not a title he can claim 100%…yet, but he is improving day by day. He wears a belly band 100% of the time as he waits for his neutering appointment. We believe in his former home, he was using pee pads because he hated going on the grass initially. He walks on the grass now. He has no problem pooping outside if the timing is right but if we take our eye off him for a minute between him being ready and getting that leash on him, well we will find his business in another area. At least he is consistent and we know where to look. We admittedly initially gave him too much freedom to roam around. We are back on supervised house exploration.  We have tried kennel training him but he HATES it. After multiple attempts, each resulting in 4 hours of whining and barking, we gave in and stopped putting him in. His favorites place to hang out is on the top of the couch where he can keep his eye on everything.  He is  very food motivated and we are working on not begging or barking while we are eating and he is making excellent progress.   He is a cuddler on his terms. He is definitely a little shadow to his chosen person and on occasion can be vocal with a protective little growl when someone unexpectedly gets too close to them, but he has never bitten anyone. He tolerates other dogs but doesn’t really play with them. He will protest if they get too close and go find a place where he is left alone.  We are seeing a little more of his personality each day. He wants affection and is spending more and more time on our laps where he enjoys being scratched and  getting belly rubs.  Doc would do best in a home where someone is home a lot. He is definitely a constant companion type of dog and craves being in the presence of someone at all times.     GENERAL INFO:   Housebroken?: Not yet Crate Trained?: NO Leash Trained?: Yes Rides Well in Car?: Yes Non-Shedding?: No but low shed Good with cats?: No idea Good with dogs?: Yes Qualifies for Seniors for Seniors?: yes Umbrella of Hope does not have any strict rules on ages of children because all children are different, but our best approximation is that this animal would do best with children over the age of 12 Umbrella of Hope is an all-volunteer, donation-run, non-profit animal rescue based out of Pittsburg, CA that rescues animals from local shelters, places them in private foster homes, provides them with needed medical care and then finds them new homes.  Also, ask us about our seniors for seniors program, where we adopt animals 5 years or older to qualified homes with a $5 donation as an adoption fee.
