Story
Meet Misty - a playful curious now 10-year-old terrier mix ready for her forever home!This sweet, sassy, smart, happy, easy going, independent gal loves her people and enjoys being part of the action. She may seem timid at first but after you throw her favorite toy or give her ear scratches she warms up pretty quickly. She will play fetch all day if you can keep up! She enjoys walking on leash and getting new smells while exploring. She also likes being frequently brushed between being groomed. She does well in the home alone or with her people around. She would do well in a home that would include her in daily life.Misty's story began in a Texas shelter where she spent about a month, losing weight and battling kennel cough before coming to our rescue. After arriving at our rescue at 17 lbs, she had surgery to remove a large chain of mammary tumors and a fatty growth near the base of her tail, all of which were thankfully benign.Now she is a healthy happy girl weighing in at 27 lbs and eats 3 small meals from a slow feed bowl to help her maintain healthy weight and routine. She does shed a little and is not hypoallergenic in that aspect. Misty loves being brushed and is so soft you'll want to cuddle with her all day, and she'll love that too. But we think she'd rather be playing fetch, which is her absolute favorite game. So get your tennis ball ready to be thrown, she'll bring it back, place it right in your hand and you can just see the sparkle of happiness in her eyes. It's a wonderful feeling.Misty is leash trained and enjoys exploring the world. She makes a great road trip companion, nicely settled and tethered in the back seat. She is extremely smart and was quick to learn basic commands and "let's go" in/outside, is crate trained and housebroken. She does not jump on furniture or people. She recognizes her harness / leash and knows when it's time to go for a walk. She loves showing off her newest outfit, quite the fashionista.Misty is ready for her forever home but please keep in mind, your new fetch partner has some IVDD (introvertebral disk disease) which causes a bit of weakness in her back legs. She doesn't let that stop her and eagerly plays fetch. She is currently fostered in a ranch style home setting, she will need to take it slow with adjusting to going up and down stairs as she continues to strengthen her back legs each day. A securely fenced yard would be ideal for her to safely explore and stretch her legs (and of course play fetch!).
