Story
Miel / Female / 30 lbs / 2 years / Whippet Cross / Ok with calm confident dogs / No Cats Please / Untested with Children / Prefers Quieter Home / From Mexico / Fostered in Mississauga ** Follow Miel’s adventures on Instagram: @woofwooofgang ** Meet Miel! This girl is true to her name, sweet and cuddly and eager to please! Miel previously had a loving family who took care of her and brought her in to be spayed by our partner rescue in Mexico. After the successful operation, her family opted to surrender her to the rescue. She has since made her way to Canada to find her forever family. Miel is described by her fosters as sweet, cuddly and gentle. She takes things slow and likes to assess her surroundings, but once she is settled she comes out of her shell. When Miel is not cuddling with you, she loves to relax in the yard and enjoy the sunshine. Her fosters say sometimes when they look at her she has a big smile on her face! With her trusted humans, Miel is loving, friendly and enjoys attention. While she likes to be nearby, she is also comfortable to have her own space. Miel can be a bit hesitant with new people, needing time and space to observe and sniff. She is polite, but can take a bit of time to warm up. Miel has not met any children yet. If she were to be in a home with children they will need to be respectful of her boundaries and needs. Miel’s ideal home would be a house with a yard as she loves to take in nature. If no yard, access to greenspaces and time outdoors will be needed as she loves to soak up the sun and smells. Condo and big city life is not for Miel, as loud noises, and vehicles can startle her. A quieter, less busy neighborhood would be best fit. Miel loves getting out for her walks. She currently gets 3 walks a day for about 20-30 minutes, plus some pee breaks and time to play in the yard. She can be a puller on leash because she has a strong prey drive for small critters. Miel can also be reactive to people, dogs, and cars and will start barking and trying to chase. She is currently receiving support to help her learn to feel safe and more comfortable on leash and has been making great progress! Her forever family should be prepared to continue to work on some leash reactivity with her so she can be supported and learn that outside does not need to be so overwhelming. Miel does well with other dogs after slow, polite and calm introductions. She can bark and be reactive when she is overwhelmed or feeling uncomfortable so patience and time is key. Miel has shown positive progress through training in foster care and we think she would do well with a second larger, confident dog. As Miels future family you will be given a decompression consultation with one of our behaviour specialists to help with the transition. Miel has not met cats yet and is looking for a cat free home. Within the house Miel is very well mannered. She is respectful of her space and can be left alone. Miel is potty trained and loves to learn new things - especially for treats! Miel has good obedience skills - sit, stay, come, lay down and loves to give her paw. She loves enrichment activities like games and food puzzles. Miel does not show signs of separation anxiety, but does like to be near the door to greet you when you return. Having a space in the house that is only hers would be great to help her feel safe. If you’re looking for a sweet, gentle companion Miel is your gal! Story
CHARLIE 🐕 **Charlie has been waiting for his forever home since 2023** ❗️Please share far and wide so we may find his forever homes this year❗️ Located in Brampton, ON ~3.5 year old male / fixed / vaccinated Native Egyptian dog x Whippet mix (best guess) but ~44 lbs CHARLIE is a happy and extremely affectionate guy! He is happiest playing outside and loves long trail walks. He also loves to be with “his people” snuggling on the couch. Charlie is house trained and knows sit, paw & down. He is crate trained but does good when left alone and doesn’t get into any trouble. He does have a high prey drive so he should not be In a home with cats and though he has not shown any aggression with people he does jump and is mouthy when playing so he would do best in a home with older children. Charlie was adopted quickly but due to a congenital defect to his kidney (shown by ultrasound), he was surrendered back to DFBH after one year with his Canadian family. This was undoubtedly heartbreaking for him. He was then moved to 3 different foster homes (due to no fault of his own). He is now in a stable foster home (for about 1 year) and lives with other dogs fabulously. Health notes: His medical condition is being managed with an easy tablet once daily which he takes very well, and a low protein kidney specific diet. He does dribble urine at night but is very good about wearing his belly bands. Reusable ones with a pad inside are best! Fun facts: He is a very loyal companion. He makes funny dinosaur noises when he is super excited. NOTES: Kidney medication is approx. $30 a month, Kidney special diet is approx. $80 a month. Urine testing and bloodwork is being done once a year. It should be noted that on this protocol Charlie will live well but will not live as long as other dogs his same breed/size normally would. Ideally he would have a home with a yard & an active owner who can take him out for walks at least twice a day! Please give this boy a chance, don’t let his congenital defect deter you from adopting a great dog! Yes even dogs born differently deserve love and a stable home! Could you be that person who finally makes Charlie’s dreams come true?? **We will throw in a 3 month supply of his Medication & a large bag of Kidney specific diet Kibble when he is adopted** Foster to Adopt app: https://form.jotform.com/211694512438255
