Story
Hiya, friends! My name is PRINCE, and here is some information about me: PHYSICAL INFO: Breed: Wired Haired Mix (best guess!) Age: approx. 7 months Gender: Male Weight: 15.30lbs (6.95 kg) Neck Circumference: 24 cm Chest Circumference: 44 cm  Length (nose to bum): 64 cm Height (paws to shoulders): 40 cm , Height (paws to head): 48 cm  Current Location: Mexico City RESCUE STORY - When I was only 2 months old, my siblings and I were left in a box in Mexico City. My rescuers don’t know too much about my background or upbringing. I was in relatively good condition, but hungry and slightly malnourished. The amazing people from the shelter gaves me immediate nutritional support with Royal Canin Starter, and I have since made an incredible recovery. Today, I am healthy, happy, and thriving!  TEMPERAMENT- I’m a total sweetheart with a big heart to share! I love cuddles and enjoy being close to my humans (video). I can be a little shy or unsure at first (video), but I’m gentle and approachable and happy to interact once I’ve had a little time to take everything in (video). I’d love a family who is patient and happy to let me experience new things at my own pace. I’ve spent the past five months at the shelter, so I’ve become very comfortable in my familiar surroundings. I’ve only recently started venturing outside the shelter, though, which means the big world beyond my usual environment is still very new to me! I can be a little unsure in unfamiliar places, and walking on a leash is still something I’m learning. Compared with my shyer siblings, Eros and Bosco, I’m actually quite eager to take everything in and genuinely excited to explore — I just need some time and positive experiences to build my confidence. I get along well with other dogs and I’m playful and friendly with my canine friends at the shelter, where I feel safe and confident. I am neutral toward unfamiliar dogs, but I am definitely a little more unsure when meeting new dogs in new environments. I’d love an adopter who can advocate for my space and give me the time I need to become comfortable and confident around new dogs and unfamiliar surroundings. With patience, encouragement, and lots of positive experiences, I’m sure I’ll continue to blossom into a confident, affectionate, and joyful companion. And if there’s one thing I know already, it’s that I have so much love to give! My Ideal Home/Adopter Would Be: A calm, loving home where I’ll receive plenty of attention, affection, and companionship. Someone who isn’t away from home for long periods and can provide lots of interaction throughout the day. A patient and affectionate family who will give me time to decompress and settle into my new life! A home with a friendly small dog companion would be a wonderful bonus to help keep me company and build my confidence! ENERGY LEVEL – Medium/Low. I enjoy going out for my daily walks and playing with my pals, but am generally a pretty chill pup. A calm home environment that offers some mental and physical stimulation, along with plenty of affection would be ideal for a sweet guy like me! GETS ALONG WITH: Kids – Most likely! My calm, gentle demeanour may make me a good companion for kids, provided they respect my space and go at my pace. Check out this video of me receiving some cuddles from a child NOTE: While I have been tested with children, as you can see in my video, I do show some signs of discomfort at times (stiff body, tail tucked, etc.). I need an adopter who understands dog body language, can recognize signs of stress or overwhelm, and will advocate for my space when I need a break. Dogs – Yes. I get along well with dogs at the shelter Here is a video of me interacting with my friends at the shelter - happy, confident boy! Here is a video of me meeting a new dog on my walk. You can see I am much more timid and am seeking comfort from my handler. I also have a tucked tail and look uncomfortable, so I would really like an adopter who can advocate for my space and help me increase my confidence over time! Cats – Unknown. PREY DRIVE - Unknown. I’m not too sure how I’ll react around squirrels/rabbits etc., so my adopter needs to be prepared and willing to train me through these behaviours, should they arise. TRAINING: Leash skills – Work in progress. I enjoy going out for walks and sniffing everything around me! As walking on leash is still quite new to me, I will need an adopter who is happy to work with me on my leash manners. A well-fitted harness and some dedicated leash training will help set me up for success. With patience, consistency, and positive reinforcement, I will gradually discover that the world beyond the shelter can be a safe and enjoyable place for me! Check out this video to see how well I’m doing on-leash already! Here is a video of me on leash on a quiet street - you can see I need a bit of coaxing at the beginning. Here is a video of me on leash on a busier street with traffic and another video of me on a bit of a busier street in Mexico City. House trained – Work in progress. As I’m still a young pup, frequent potty breaks and positive reinforcement will help me learn housetraining in my new home :) HEALTH NOTES: I am neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. I will come to Canada with proof of all my vaccines and test records. I will be tested for Heartworm etc. before flying to Canada. I was malnourished when I was first brought to the shelter but have since gained some healthy wait! Continued monitoring of my diet with a veterinarian will ensure I’m receiving all the vitamins and nutrients I need to stay a happy and healthy boy! NOTE: It is not uncommon for rescue dogs to require dental work/cleaning after they are adopted. West Coast Paws does not cover the costs of dental work and/or vet visits. These costs are the financial responsibility of the adopter. ADOPTION FEE: My adoption fee is $840.00 CAD including tax ($750.00 + 5% GST, 7% PST), which includes my airfare, if a flight volunteer is found directly to Vancouver. ------------------------------------- DISCLAIMER: Please visit wcpdogrescue.com to read about West Coast Paws Dog Rescue and its adoption process.
