Story
Hello everyone! My name is SUNNY and here is more info about me: Breed: Wirehaired Fox Terrier Podengo Portugueso Age: approx 2.5 years Gender: Female Weight: 25lbs (11.7 kg)  Height: 45  cm Length: 58 cm Current Location: Guadalajara Mexico RESCUE STORY - Like many of my furry friends, I was found on the street by very kind hoomans who decided to help me out. I was very skinny and I came right up to them when they offered me a snack. I was also scared and nervous because I had learned to survive alone on the streets with some kind people occasionally leaving me food. It took time for me to trust hoomans and I preferred to just lay in my crate alone. Once I gained confidence and knew these wonderful people were taking care of me, I showed affection and I love snuggle hugs.  TEMPERAMENT - I am a very playful and affectionate little lady. My rescuer describes me as high energy (I love to play ALL THE TIME!) but I am a good listener and quite obedient. I really love to rest in my crate, my special safe place.I respond to my name when my hoomans call me in a firm voice. Since being with my rescuer, I get along very well with people. At first I can be a bit shy, but once I gain confidence, I approach my hoomans on my own. I'm very sweet, and my way of getting attention is by giving little nudges with my nose! Sometimes I even give gentle “kisses." Because I can be a little shy at first, sometimes I bark when I meet new people. That's understandble because I spent my first two years without a home, and can be weary of strangers so I usually retreat until I am familliar or not feeling nervous. If I'm feeling unsure of someone, I usually just go hide in my crate until I'm feeling comfortable again. My rescuer says I am a bit protective of my safe space (my crate) at first, when a new dog arrives to the shelter. When I was living on the streets, I was unsure of new doggos so I like to build a bond and get to know the new pup to able to relax around my crate. Once I know they are my new friend, I am super comfortable and have no problems letting other pups into my safe space. Sometimes when I meet a new pup, I might react, but I would never hurt a soul! It’s more like a warning to respect my space. Overall, I am a sweet and playful pup and would LOVE a chance at a furever family.  ENERGY LEVEL - Medium/high GETS ALONG WITH: Kids – Unknown.  Dogs – Yes! I am the happiest around other pups as you can see here and am the one who leads the others to play or wrestle!  Cats – Unknown but testing can be requested! PREY DRIVE - Unknown. I’m not too sure how I’ll react around squirrels/rabbits etc. My adopter needs to be prepared and willing to train me through these behaviours, should they arise. TRAINING: Leash skills – My rescuers say I am learning as you can see here and require patience and reassurance. At first I was afraid to go outside but now have no issues. House trained – My rescuer says I am good with this but I may need some additional training and patience.  Crate trained – My rescuer says my crate is my safe place and I occasionally disappear from the group to have a time out and rest in my crate.  Car rides – My rescuer says I am okay with this and travel calmly in my crate.  Please Note: WCP highly encourages adopters to do some research and training on their own before their dog arrives.  HEALTH NOTES:  I am spayed and vaccinated. NOTE: It is not uncommon for rescue dogs to require dental work/cleaning after they are adopted. West Coast Paws does not cover the costs of dental work and/or vet visits. These costs are the financial responsibility of the adopter. ADOPTION FEE: My adoption fee is $840.00 CAD including tax (5% GST, 7% PST), which includes my airfare, if a flight volunteer is found directly to Vancouver. ------------------------------------- DISCLAIMER: Please visit wcpdogrescue.com to read about West Coast Paws Dog Rescue and it's adoption process.
