**Meet Chase** — a smart, energetic, and highly driven 1-year-old Jack Russell Terrier mix who requires a precise, structured environment and an experienced handler. Rescued after being found on his own by the Fillmore County Sheriff, Chase has significant high-arousal and reactive behaviors stemming from anxiety and past trauma. He is looking for a firm, adult-only home equipped to manage his training and behavioral needs long-term.
**Home & Handler Requirements**
* **Strictly Adult-Only & Calm Home:** No children or high-traffic households. He requires a highly predictable, quiet environment to keep his stress and arousal levels low.
* **Previous JRT / Working Breed Experience:** Priority will be given to handlers experienced with Jack Russells or other high-drive, reactive breeds.
* **Fenced Yard:** A secure, physical fence is required.
* **Dog Profile:** Compatible only with patient, non-reactive dogs (preferably larger) that are confident enough to give persistent physical/behavioral corrections. Chase loves a high-energy game of tug, but his play manners are an active work in progress.
**Behavioral & Management Profile**
* **Arousal Management:** Chase’s arousal levels can escalate quickly and intensely. His handler must recognize early signs of over-arousal and immediately remove him from the stimulus to let him reset.
* **Resource Guarding & Handling Sensitivity:** He resource guards comfy resting spots, preferred humans, and food, which can manifest as lunging and growling if he perceives a threat to his high-value items. He is strictly uncomfortable with being leaned over or having his feet handled.
* **Safety Protocols:** Must be kept on a leash at all times in public. He **requires a drag line in the house for the first two weeks** in his new home to manage boundaries safely.
**Routine, Training & Skills**
* **Strict Routines:** Thrives on tight structure, including a specific daily feeding schedule and an established bedtime routine (he sleeps in his crate at night).
* **Current Skills:** Knows sit, shake, and down. He is doing well with potty training and potty pads.
* **Drive & Exercise:** Has a high prey drive (will pull toward squirrels on walks) and requires significant mental stimulation. He loves food, chew toys, and squeaky toys, and will need ongoing professional training classes to work on boundaries, manners, and behavior modification.
Chase will be the perfect dog for a capable handler ready to enforce clear boundaries, maintain strict management, and execute a structured behavior plan.
