Story
Spikey is an incredibly, sweet and gentle, 10-year-old 19-pound male Yorkie-Poo looking for a loving guardian. Spikey loves absolutely everyone! He gets along with other dogs, cats, and people of all ages. He is perfectly housebroken, loves his walks and rides beautifully in the car. He landed in a cage at Chicago Animal Care and Control back in February after being found as a stray. We brought him home and he’s been living in a loving foster home for Friends of Petraits ever since. After some extensive diagnostics … x-rays, bloodwork, urinalysis and  ultrasound, it was determined that Spikey has Cushings Disease. Cushings in dogs occurs when the body produces too much cortisol hormone, leading to a range of symptoms including increased thirst, excessive panting, and hair loss. Luckily, his foster parents noticed the signs very early and the vets concurred. He is on medicine twice a day, along with a special diet and he’s doing great! Spikey is excellent at the groomer and needs a professional grooming every six weeks. Spikey is neutered, microchipped, up-to-date on rabies, distemper, leptospirosis, and bordetella vaccines, dewormed, heartworm and fecal-tested negative, and on monthly preventative. His adoption fee of $250 benefits the rescued pets of Friends of Petraits Rescue which includes an ample supply of his meds and special food. To meet and possibly adopt Spikey, fill out the application athttps://friendsofpetraits.com/dog-adoption-application/ Once you’ve completed the application, follow up at friendsofpetraits@gmail.com to meet him. He is currently being fostered in Chicago, Illinois.

Hi! I'm Gus, a 3 year old, 12 pound, neutered Yorkie Poo pup who loves to play and cuddle. I don’t really understand the whole personal space concept. I want to be as close to you as possible. I'm also crate trained! I currently sleep in there at night. As soon as I see my nighttime treat, I run in, eat my snack, and off to sleep I go. I usually will sleep and stay quiet until you wake up in the morning. One of my favorite things is playing with a playmate, so it would be really nice if there was another little brother or sister for me to play with. If not, I’m pretty good with chasing down balls and playing with toys on my own. I'm quite vocal too, always ready to 'talk' about my day. And I love my Zoomies! I can run around with joy and play catch in my yard. So, a small dog secure fenced yard would be nice but not required. I’m happy to get out of the house and go on walks to do my business. I pull a little at the beginning, but my foster mom is working on that. And hold on tight if there is a bunny or birdie around, as I will do whatever I can to catch it. And I have to let you in on a little secret: I can be a bit snarky when it comes to my food, so it's best to let me eat in peace. I would say I’d be best in a house with kids over 16 as I can get a little nippy when playing. Slow introductions to new folks coming into the home are probably best as well, as I do like to protect my home. Why should you adopt me? Well, I'm full of love and fun, just waiting to share my zest for life with a family who loves a playful, cuddly companion like me! And don’t forget the cute factor. My cute little face is pretty hard to resist. I am up to date on all shots, neutered, microchipped, fecal checked, heartworm negative and current on heartworm and flea/tick prevention. Chewbacca is the sweetest little nugget you'll ever meet who is always at your side snuggled up. He's a terrier though, so he can be feisty walking by other dogs on a leash but he's all bark and no bite. He adores his people and would do best in a home with children, another playful small dog and a family who is home often. He does mark inside on occasion but is housetrained most of the time. I have gotten more open with people since coming to ARF. Austin has been a little more reserved. So far, we are not too comfortable being held, but we should get better with time and love.  We love all dogs. Little dogs, big dogs and anything in between.  We sleep in a crate at night now because we liked to run around and play and get the other dogs all excited at 2 or 3 in the morning. We might whine just a little but we are pretty quiet all night long.  We’re not really house trained yet, but I think we’ll get it pretty quick. We haven’t made a mess in the crate for a while and when we get up in the morning we run outside and take care of business.  It would be great if these young brothers could be kept together! They rely on each other when unsure of the world around them. This pup is micro-chipped, up to date on all vaccinations, and neutered.
