Abyssinian kittens & cats in South Dakota

Mango is a beautiful 4-year-old purebred Abyssinian who is still figuring out this whole shelter life thing. She’s a very shy girl who can be slow to warm up. Mango is looking for a patient, understanding home that will let her take things at her own pace. She may need some time to feel comfortable with new people and new surroundings, but we think she has the potential to show more of her personality once she feels safe and secure. Her new family should be prepared to give her space, consistency, and plenty of gentle encouragement rather than expecting her to be an instant lap cat. Because Mango has never lived in a home with other animals, we don’t know how she would feel about having furry roommates. Slow, thoughtful introductions would be important if she were to join a home with other pets. Abyssinians are intelligent, active, and interactive cats, so once Mango settles in, she may enjoy plenty of enrichment, playtime, and opportunities to keep her curious mind busy. For now, though, she’s looking for something a little simpler: a quiet place to land, someone willing to earn her trust, and the time to let her become comfortable in her own way. Meet and greet/adoption appointments are highly recommended to ensure the animal you are interested in is currently at the shelter. All our cats and kittens have an "Adopt one and the 2nd at half the adoption fee!" bonus!!! Our kitten/cat adoption fees vary on age, ($25-125 +TAX) special needs, lonely heart status (cats that have been with us 6+ months), and for our senior to seniors program. Our adoption fees include the following: all of our cats/kittens are current on vaccinations (FVRCP series and Rabies if over 3 months of age) at the point of adoption, dewormed, tested for Feline Leukemia (FeLV) and Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV), treated for fleas/ticks/earmites in addition to being spayed or neutered once the cat reaches 2 lbs in weight. All cats and kittens adopted from the shelter are microchipped. Adoption fees may vary in special circumstances. Because we are on a busy street, we require that all cats leaving the shelter be in a carrier. All pets are up for adoption until an approved application is processed and their adoption fee is paid.
