Come meet Freedom and other great adoptable dogs this Sunday (1/4) from 12-3 pm at the PetSmart in Alexandria, VA (3351 Richmond Hwy, Alexandria, VA 22305)! Name: Freedom Best Guess for Breed: Wheaten terrier mix Best Guess for Age: 5 years as of October 2025 SEX: Male Approximate Weight: 22 lbs Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven't seen him with cats or kids but we are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters! Currently Living at: DC area foster home Special adoption considerations: Freedom recently had a biopsy that revealed a subcutaneous mast cell tumor, which was found to be less aggressive. The mass has been successfully removed; however, due to its deep attachment to the muscle and ribs, there is a possibility that small remnants may remain. This means there is an estimated 30-50% chance that the tumor could return over time. We're happy to speak to interested adopters about his test results and potential treatments. Dogs from Puerto Rico have a major transition to go through when they arrive and will need humans who are very committed to socialization. We think Freedom would do best with either a resident dog or a family who can make sure he can go on walks regularly with other dogs, visit the dog park, or go to doggie daycare to learn the ropes.
