Story
Paul is a one-of-a-kind young dog with a big heart and an even bigger personality. Two years old and 65#, he is a unique blend of Great Pyrenees, Australian Cattle Dog, and Labrador Retriever. He is a thoughtful guy with a playful and affectionate spirit. “Use Somebody” by Kings of Leon is his perfect theme song – he’s ready to find his forever. Often called “Pauly” or “Pauly-Wally,” Paul is equal parts resilient, expressive, and observant. He is brave and willing to try new things if he gets a minute to consider the situation without pressure. If a noise startles him, he creates space and regroups. He thrives with patience from his humans and the calming presence of another confident dog. Paul’s favorite things are simple. A cozy warm blanket, a good chew toy, and, at the absolute top of the list: wrestling and running with a canine buddy. The boost of confidence he gets from another dog in his home is life-changing, and he must have a friendly 4-legged companion in his forever home. He would thrive in a calm, steady household that enjoys leisurely walks, relaxed evenings, and time together. He wants a fenced space for playtime, but living in a home without a fence is ok if he gets to safely stretch his legs each day. Paul is housebroken, does well in his crate (even overnight), and walks nicely on leash, though he may pull when excited. Paul has been exposed to daily life in a busy campus environment. He regularly encounters people, other dogs, and various sights and sounds. He can be wary at first, particularly around men, but improves with gentle exposure. He’s also great with cats and small dogs. Because he prefers a calmer environment, he’s best suited for a home with teenage kids. Playful, funny, and deeply endearing, Paul is a happy dog with a sensitive soul looking for a deep connection. Is that you? APPLY to adopt him at hoabcr.org/how-to-adopt Paul is being fostered in Ames, IA. Paul's adoption fee is $250 + MN sales tax. He is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on age-appropriate vaccines. Upon adoption, all of our dogs go to their new homes with a collar and harness, leash, starter food, blanket, favorite toys & treats. They are current on flea/tick and heartworm prevention. As a foster-based rescue, we do not have a central facility to visit. Meet and greets with specific dogs are arranged once your adoption application (not an inquiry through Petfinder) has been received, processed, and approved. We are located in Minnesota and adopt to an area 400 miles from Minneapolis/St. Paul.
