Story
Ivy is a beautiful Great Pyrenees / Anatolian Shepherd mix, around 2 years old and now about 100 pounds. She has a calm, thoughtful presence and a very tender heart that reveals itself slowly, with time and trust. Ivy came to the shelter after being surrendered from a home that had too many animals. For much of her life she lived outdoors and was originally intended to be a livestock guardian. But Ivy isn’t truly a working guardian at heart — she’s a dog who wants connection, safety, and patient guidance. Because of her past, Ivy approaches new situations carefully. She is shy in unfamiliar environments and needs time to feel comfortable with new people. Multiple meets, patience, and allowing her to move at her own pace will help her feel secure. She can also be a little slower to warm up to men at first. Once Ivy feels safe with her people, her softer side begins to shine. She enjoys quiet companionship, gentle affection, playful moments, and belly rubs once trust has been earned. Building a relationship with Ivy takes time, but the bond she forms is incredibly special. Ivy does well with most other dogs and would likely benefit from having a calm, confident canine companion in the home. She has also shown no concern around cats in our cat room. Ivy is looking for a patient home that understands she will need time to decompress and settle in. She may start out shy, but with kindness and consistency, Ivy has the potential to become a deeply loyal and devoted companion. Ivy is spayed, up to date on core vaccinations, microchipped, and heartworm tested. She has been seen by our veterinary team and is current on flea/tick and heartworm prevention. Any available medical records will be provided at the time of adoption. Apply to adopt at: https://orangecountyva.gov/159/Pet-Adoption-Foster-Care-Information
