Story
If laughter is the best medicine, then Sphen is ready to fill your prescription. This one-of-a-kind Akita/Poodle mix is as goofy as they come. Whether he’s clumsily chasing after a toy, attempting to curl up in your lap like he’s a tiny puppy, or sneaking in a surprise kiss, Sphen has a way of making every day a little brighter. He’s unapologetically silly, endlessly affectionate, and happiest when he’s spending one-on-one time with his favorite people. Sphen is an active, intelligent dog who thrives when both his body and mind have something to do. Miles & Mutts adventures, hiking, training sessions, puzzle toys, or even a spirited game of fetch are all right up his alley. Once he’s had a chance to burn off some energy, he settles in beautifully and is more than happy to simply enjoy your company. He’s a smart boy who knows the cues sit and down, appears to be potty trained, and walks nicely on a leash. Like many enthusiastic dogs, he can occasionally get a little bouncy when he’s excited, but he’s eager to learn and responds well to positive guidance. Sphen is the kind of dog who truly enjoys training because it means he gets to spend time with his person. One thing we’ve learned during Sphen’s stay is that he hasn’t had much experience socializing with other animals. While he’s made progress in many areas, dog meet-and-greets have shown us that he still needs help learning appropriate canine manners. Because of this, Sphen would do best as the only dog in the home for now, with an adopter who is willing to continue his training and socialization at a pace that’s comfortable for him. He may also be too enthusiastic for a home with small animals. Above all else, Sphen is a dog with a huge heart and an even bigger personality. He doesn’t strive for perfection—he’s far too busy making people smile. What he needs is someone who will embrace his goofy antics, continue helping him grow, and give him the love and consistency he’s been waiting for. If you’re looking for a loyal adventure partner, a comedian, and a best friend all wrapped into one wonderfully unique dog, Sphen is ready to meet you.
