Story
FOSTER OR FOSTER TO ADOPTMeet Lakota Our Calm, Confident Teddy Bear Lakota is a breathtaking 34 year old spitz-type beauty weighing 48 pounds though with all that magnificent fluff, she looks much bigger! With her plush cream coat, dark mask, and curled plume tail, she has the striking look of an Akita, but her size suggests shes likely mixed with another spitz breed, possibly something like a Keeshond. Whatever her mix may be, Lakota is simply stunning. But what truly sets her apart isnt just her looks its her temperament.Lakota is calm, steady, and completely unbothered by the chaos around her. Other dogs barking? She doesnt care. New environment? Nothing phases her. She carries herself with quiet confidence and a gentle presence that makes you instantly relax. Volunteers describe her as beautiful and very calm, extremely gentle she takes treats politely., confident and mellow and excellent on leash with no pullingShe moves through the world like she owns it in the best way. Because of her composed and easygoing nature, we think she could even shine at public events or outings. She truly takes everything in stride. After spending time with her, weve decided she may look like a guardian wolf but shes actually a teddy bear. Why Foster or Foster-to-Adopt?Lakota came to Canine Collective from a high-intake shelter in Texas, where heartworm disease is unfortunately common. As part of our routine testing, we learned that she is heartworm positive. The good news? Heartworm is treatable and not contagious its transmitted only through mosquito bites. Canine Collective will cover the full cost of her treatment, which includes three veterinary visits over approximately four months. During that time, Lakota simply needs a calm home where she can stay comfortable and keep her activity level moderate while she heals. Given her naturally mellow personality, she may be one of the easiest heartworm fosters around. We are looking for a foster or foster-to-adopt home willing to help her through this temporary chapter. And if, once shes completed treatment, you realize you cant imagine life without your very own teddy bear? We would be absolutely delighted to make it official. Lakota would be a wonderful match for someone looking for a steady, balanced companion with both presence and softness. Shes the kind of dog who doesnt demand attention she simply earns it.If youre looking for a beautiful, calm companion with a soft heart under all that fluff, Lakota may be your girl. Story
Gentle Giant Looking for His Forever Home 🖤 Meet Doom, our big, sweet Akita boy with the softest heart and the goofiest personality. Doom is house-trained, well-mannered, and truly just a giant baby in a fluffy body. He loves being close to his people, soaking up attention, and lounging around like he owns the couch. He is incredibly affectionate, loyal, and kind. the type of dog who just wants to be near you and feel loved. He has a calm, gentle nature but still enjoys walks, playtime, and having space to stretch his legs. Akitas are such special, devoted dogs, and Doom really lives up to that reputation. This decision has been extremely hard for us. We are expecting our first baby and, after a lot of thought, we know we wont be able to give Doom the time, energy, and one-on-one attention he truly deserves. Our biggest wish is to find him a home where he can continue to be spoiled, loved, and treated like family.
