Story
Koba is a 7 year old intact American Akita. I took him in for a friend that discovered her young son is severely allergic, as he was previously purchased for her late husband before he passed away. However he is not a good fit for our home of 5 kids, 2 other dogs and cats. He does get along with other dogs for the most part but is food aggressive. He has been around children his whole life and been fine with them. He is used to being a barn dog and is not house trained. Akita’s are a very stubborn, assertive, alpha but loyal breed. Someone with experience with the breed or the time, patience and resources to work with him would be best.

**WE ARE CURRENTLY DOING ADOPTIONS BY APPOINTMENT ONLY. YOU MUST CALL TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT IF YOU'RE INTERESTED IN ADOPTING. PLEASE LEAVE US A VOICEMAIL IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO REACH US. THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATIENCE AND UNDERSTANDING.- CCDP STAFF** Hi there. My name is Willy. I'm about 4-5 years old and I weigh about 55 lbs. I was brought into the pound as a stray and I am now looking for a new, breed savvy family to join. When I first came in, I had a flea infestation, flea allergy dermatitis and ear infections. I was also extremely thin. It was evident that whoever owned me before I made my way into the pound had not been caring for me well. I am a very sweet boy. I've been such a nice boy with all of the people I've met since coming into the pound. I was quite good for my bath, aside from trying to escape the tub a couple of times. Everyone that meets me says the same thing "that's the nicest akita I've ever met"! And they're probably right. I'm a pretty good guy! I have done well around the other dogs I've met here at the pound, though I would definitely need to meet any other dogs I would live with just to make sure we get along well. I do not seem to have any house manners nor do I appear to be potty trained, so I will need a patient family that can spend time working with me on basic manners and training. If you're looking for a sweet dog to add to your family, please consider adopting me. Our adoption fee is $152. We accept cash, check or credit/ debit cards for adoption fees. If you pay using a credit or debit card, a convenience fee of 2.39% will also be applied. If paying by check, you will need 2. One Check will be for the dog license, and one will be for your dog's adoption fee, which includes heartworm testing (for dogs 6 months of age old and older), parvo/distemper vaccine, rabies vaccine, bordetella vaccine, 3 days of panacur de-wormer, spay or neuter surgery, microchip, and a current Ohio dog license. We DO offer foster to adopt. (We will NOT accept cash for foster to adopt). We highly recommend you do a foster to adopt with your new dog if you are not 100% sure your new dog is going to work out in your home. Foster to adopt gives you a couple of weeks with the dog to make sure they are a good fit with your family before your payment is processed and the adoption is finalized. ALL DOGS/PUPPIES WILL BE SPAYED OR NEUTERED unless a health issue prohibits the surgery from being performed. Not all dogs posted for adoption are spayed/ neutered yet. If you're driving a long distance to adopt, please verify that the vetting process has been completed and dog you're interested in adopting is still available for adoption. The above mentioned vetting is all included in your adoption fee. The adoption fee and what is included in the adoption fee is NON-NEGOTIABLE. Adoptions MUST be done at the pound and in person as there is paperwork to fill out and an adoption contract that must be signed by the adopter. This means you must be willing to travel to our shelter to adopt. If the dog you're interested in adopting has medical conditions or injuries which require medical treatment, we ask that you help with the medical bills, in addition to their adoption fee if possible so we can continue to help the dogs coming in who need additional vet care. We are a county run shelter, therefore we cannot control our intake or the health or behavior of the dogs that come in to our shelter. Although we try our hardest to place all of our adoptable dogs, there are certain circumstances in which any dog in our care could be euthanized at any time and without further notice (IE: sudden untreatable medical condition or injury, temperament or behavioral problems which may not be apparent when the dog first arrives, etc.), therefore all dogs at our shelter should be considered urgent. We try our absolute hardest to never have to euthanize for space and have not had to do so for many years thanks to the ongoing support from the public and high adoption rates. Please remember; the adoption of a more highly adoptable dog will mean more time for the less adoptable dog in the kennel next to him! Shelter hours are Monday-Friday: 8 am- 4 pm. Saturday, Sunday and holidays: 8 am - 12 pm. Adoptions are always welcome any day of the week/ weekend and on holidays. We are here everyday to care for the dogs and the best way to make our day is to see our dogs go to loving families. There is nobody in the office on Saturday, Sunday or holidays, so therefore, we are unable to answer or return phone calls over the weekend. We are only staffed to take care of the dogs and do adoptions over the weekends/ on holidays. Can't adopt a dog? We would love to have more volunteers who are able to spend time with our dogs! The dogs LOVE going for walks and the socialization and exercise helps make the dogs more adoptable. Story
Meet Kurt! Kurt came to us as a stray after being tied up at a local park. We are not sure why somebody chose to dump this handsome pup, but he is ready to start his next chapter! Kurt can be reserved with strangers--as is typical for his breed mix--but he is opening up faster every day. Kurt is still just a puppy, and quite the energetic boy that would love an active home! He would do best with a family that has Akita and/or German Shepherd experience, though this is not a requirement. Kurt needs a home without young children. He does well with other dogs and may appreciate a play mate at home. If you have other animals in your home, we recommend bringing them in to do a meet and greet before taking Kurt home. If you are interested in meeting Kurt, please submit an adoption form on our website: fairfieldcountydogs.com and we will contact you to arrange a time to visit. Story
Tippy and her brother Smokey are a bonded pair of Akitas from the same litter. Aikitas are protective breed. Bonds with a person and guards them and their property. They have enjoyed the inside/outside lifestyle since puppyhood.I am loosing my home and cannot keep them. They need space to run and play. They keep each other company, and do not require a lot of human time to maintain. Smokey will play some, Tippy will not. Both talk to you with grumbles. Bring leashes.

Good with kids, Not good with dogs, Not good with cats, House-trained,
Story
Rescued 4 years ago, Kyoshi is a sweet, expressive pup looking for a new family. Due to competing life priorities, her current owners heart-wrenchingly cannot give her the time and attention she truly deserves. Kyoshi is 100% house-trained with excellent manners, enjoying full free roam of the home. She dislikes the crate (and is vocal about it!), but she doesn't need one! The Details: Energy: Low-medium. Needs two 15–30 min walks daily, but a fenced yard to zoom in is her dream. Smart Cookie: Knows Sit, Stay, Paw, and Down. She automatically sits for treats/walks and has good leash manners. Other Pets: Wants to be your center of attention! Dog-selective, so she must be an only pet. Kids: Loves them (and dropped snacks!), but she's a clumsy "bull in a china shop" who might bump toddlers, so sturdy kids are best. Kyoshi is a loyal, clever soul ready to fill your home with love.
