Story
Polar's breed is just a guess! To me, he looks like Boxer or American Bulldog mix. He is sweet as pie and dog social! He has been house broken with a regular potty schedule but will have accidents inside if you forget to take him out.   Polar is Deaf and learning hand signals. He was found as a stray and luckily someone was able to get him into their garage.  He is fantastic on a leash but will need either a fenced yard or to be leashed at all times since you can't get his attention by calling to him. He will wander off.  Polar currently lives with 3 dogs. 2 are larger than him and a small pomeranian. He h as done well and listens to social cues from them.  A struggle for him is that he can't hear but he doesnt know any different. This sometimes causes conflict with one of the foster dogs in the home who growls at him and he dosen't know it.  He is sweet and doesn't mean to cause any trouble. Polar has met kids and is shy. He needs no social pressure meet and greet and is a happy little guy once warmed up.  Polar is learning to like his crate and we are working on enrichment for him to keep his body and mind occupied to set him up for success. He is going to make someone a really nice dog. He loves attention and he also is fantastic for baths! He closes his eyes and soaks up the attention. ##2052215##

Story
My name is Petey!I’m 7 months old, extremely handsome, and potty trained. I am energetic and have a wonderful enthusiasm for walks, playing ball, especially my orange ones. I am learning my basic obedience and will sit like a gentleman and wait for you to open the door. I will need a home that is prepared to provide opportunities for enrichment and adequate exercise. I am a great traveler, so car rides are always a "sure let's go" from me. Due to my size older children would be a better match. I am very loving and my tail never stops wagging. I love people and do much better when someone is home, because I get lonely and need your cuddles. My foster mom brags about me all the time, so I must be pretty wonderful!DOB 9-5-23 71 poundsI'm waiting for a home to call my own. email webmaster@petrefuge.com to learn more about me or fill out an application at https://www.petrefuge.com/adoptPet Refuge was formed in 1978 to help with cats and dogs in need of homes. Story
Hi, I'm Tubs, and I'm 3 years old! I am a super sweet, handsome fella! I love other dogs, but can play a bit rough, so if you have another dog in the home, they gotta keep up with me! I have a floating patella, meaning my kneecap doesn't always stay in place, but the vets say that surgery is not required as long as I stay at a healthy weight! I would do best in a home with children over the age of 8, due to my size and playfulness! I am housetrained and a food motivated boy! I hope you'll come meet my goofy self soon! Some quick facts about me: Cat FriendlyDog FriendlyKid Friendly (over the age of 8)HousetrainedGoofy, happy guy!Intake Date: 4/30/24Reason: Did not do well with a young child in the homeGive the shelter a call at (574) 267-3008 or email them at info@awlwarsaw.com if you have any questions about me! Story
Lyra has mastered the puppy dog eyes - even still at approximately 7 years old. She understands that your couch is our couch, your bed is our bed, makes herself at home, and even updates the Feng Shui of any cushions - free of charge! She is packed full of personality, and loves to be near you as much as possible. Lyra was clearly cared for in her past life, and it's possible she never used to have to potty outside if it was raining or snowing. Despite not being a lover of the elements, she does still adhere to her potty training and makes every effort to "hold it" until she's let outside.  Thus far, she has gotten along with everyone and everything. Anyone - human, dog, or even car - that passes by is a potential new friend, and she is READY to greet them (nicely and quietly). She reads the room really well and doesn't want to start any trouble, but she will absolutely let loose and wrestle, chase, and smack talk if she has a willing playmate. She has not resource guarded anything but bones so far, and is OK if you touch her food, but very very sad if you take it away (even to add to it), or don't put enough food in her bowl to begin with. She will hit you with her signature puppy eyes and they are very effective.  She has some pretty big feelings about being left alone. She is currently on Prozac to help manage those feelings, and she will sing you the song of her people when you leave her. But she does better with another dog in the home, and is an absolute angel while you're gone. She does NOT like being cooped up, caged, or tethered, though. The only time she has ever been destructive is when she has not had free range.  She does OK on the leash - she pulls but listens and distracts you with the little flops of the tips of her ears. Off leash, she gets the zoomies and particularly enjoys spinning in circles. She is also pretty good about coming to you.. Once she has taken in the sights and smells.  We do not know her past. She has several scars, and a knee that's been fixed up. None of that seems to have phased her, however! She is the absolute sweetest dog and just wants to love and be loved. She is very playful and would prefer a home with other pets, and ideally someone who is either retired, works from home, or a home where at least one human is home at any given time.  We've not tested for everything yet - but we suspect she'd be friends with any age of human, and any animal. We do not accept electric/underground fences. All dogs & cats in the home must be spayed/neutered & up to date on core vaccines & preventatives in order for your application to be approved. ##1840663##
