SWEET AS PIE! Finn is a super cute and very unique Golden Retriever/American Bulldog. He has an unusual brindle and black coat that we have never seen before. He is a one year old puppy who is full of fun. This sweet boy loves his brother and plays with him all day long. Finn is a gentle boy who enjoys being held and getting cuddles. He is very affectionate and longs for his furever home to have someone to give him the love and attention he deserves. Right now he lives on a farm and is used to being around horses, ducks and chickens. He learned very quickly how to sit and is now learning to walk on a leash. He would do well in a home with other dogs and older children. This little boy is already neutered and has a microchip. His adoption includes a collar and training leash as well as two training classes with our trainer for you to learn good leash skills, how to interact with other dogs and people, and how to be a good leader. Story
Moose is a survivor. He was found in an interstate highway median. His rescuer, Sean, brought him home and has been fostering him for the last three months. Moose has proven to be a very loyal, loving, and highly intelligent dog. He has been completely vetted and is in excellent health. There is one issue which I will cover below. Moose has instantly become a good family member. He is friendly with all people, gets along great with the neighbors, and is best friends with Sean’s male shepard, Max. Moose has wonderful house manners and stays in the back yard even though he could jump out any time he likes. Moose does need careful introduction to dogs he does not know. He can be very protective. But with the right owner, this is a very manageable situation. If you want a loyal, protective companion ready to go on all your adventures with you, you cannot do better than Moose. His one health issue is not really a health problem, but it is a bit of a mystery that the vets cannot figure out. His right eye bulges out at times when he is chewing. We have had it checked numerous times. It does not appear to bother him. Come meet Moose and give him a chance to have a wonderful life. You will be very happy you did.

Dante was recently rescued from a home where they had no time for him. They kept him crated all the time which is where the scars on his head came from. He is a very sweet and loving boy. He is really well mannered and housetrained. He is very loving and wants to be loved. With good leadership, he walks well on a leash, but he would be best in a home that has experience. He is friendly to all. Cats are an unknown. He is reported to be full blooded American Bulldog, but he looks like he has some boxer in him to me. His former family reportedly paid $2000 for him as a puppy. Give Dante a great home and you will have a friend and a protector for life!

Rupert is an adorable 1 year old mixed breed. We are actually awaiting a DNA to.come back to tell.us his breeds. What we can tell you is he has a lot of puppy energy still, and needs an active family. He does seem to get along with other dogs, but we would want a meet and greet first. Rupert is a low riding, fun loving guy!  If you want to make Rupert a part of your family, fill out an application at www.barktownrescue.org  RUPERT'S ADOPTION FEE IS $175The shelter software system requires that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable so for most of our dogs we are only guessing at the dog's predominant breed or breed mix. We strongly encourage you to select your new pet by looking at each dog's individual personality and pet qualities rather than relying on a breed label that is only our best guess.    Our adoption fees vary from $150 and up.  All of our dogs are up to date on vaccines, heart worm preventives, and flea/tick medication, and will be spayed/neutered prior to adoption. Stubbs was found as a stray in April of 2024. He was then adopted out and has been returned to us due to no fault of his own. Stubbs is a very calm, lazy boy. A soft place to land and a bone would be the perfect life for Stubbs. He doesn't have interest in other dogs or cats. He doesn't like them in his face, but would do amazing with a senior dog. We think he is a bully mix and he is definitely heavy! but he is a low rider with short legs! His droopy face is the cutest.
