Meet Big Ben 🖤🐾 — a survivor who finally gets to rest Big Ben is a 4-year-old bulldog mix who weighs around 70 pounds now—but when he first came into the shelter, he was nothing more than a bag of bones. He was severely emaciated, heartbreakingly thin, and clearly had been without the care he so desperately needed. Thanks to the incredible dedication of the shelter staff, Big Ben slowly but surely put weight back on and began to heal. But healing didn’t mean safety. In a shelter housing over 500 dogs, Big Ben didn’t stand much of a chance. Even after regaining his weight, his odds of leaving were slim to none. He spent much of his time in one of the outdoor kennels, meaning there were days when he quite literally had no roof over his head. While staff did everything they could to rotate dogs inside, the reality of an overflowing shelter meant that dogs like Big Ben were constantly waiting on a miracle. And we watched him wait. Week after week since November, Big Ben was still there. Still overlooked. Still hoping. As cold weather approached, we knew we had to act. Getting this boy into a warm home wasn’t just important—it was urgent. Finally, the perfect foster stepped up, and the moment Big Ben walked into that house, the weight of the world seemed to lift off his shoulders. He climbed onto his foster’s bed, fell asleep almost instantly, and the rest is history. Big Ben is incredible with other dogs, gentle, loving, and just an all-around best boy. He is house trained, does well in a crate, and has adapted beautifully to life in a home—clearly something he had been missing for far too long. He is the kind of dog who fits right in and makes everything feel a little warmer just by being there. Big Ben has survived hunger, cold, and being overlooked in an impossible situation. Now, all he needs is a forever family to show him that the hard part of his life is truly over. Maggie is such a sweet pup! She is one of the first to meet you when you approach the pups. Truly a happy go lucky little girl. We’re still looking for fosters and adopters for these adorable pups! There are nine total, and our best guess is they’re bully mixes who will likely grow into some pretty hefty, lovable babies once full grown. We’ve got three males and six females, all full of personality! Fosters must be located in Mississippi. We provide EVERYTHING you need...food, supplies and vetting. You just provide the space and love! Fosters also get first option to adopt (with approval) if they fall in love with their foster pup. Adopters can be located ANYWHERE, but must be willing to TRAVEL to Crystal Springs, Mississippi for the adoption. However, if you’re in South Carolina, Frank will be making one last trip that way, so transport may be possible for approved adopters. Rescue transfers are also available to reputable rescues. We’re offering two adoption options. What we find during the application process will determine whether you qualify for both or just our traditional option. That will be discussed before we move forward with a meet and greet. Option 1 is our Traditional Adoption, with a $500 adoption fee. This fee barely covers our costs for each puppy’s vetting, which includes all vaccines through 6 months of age (puppy shots, rabies, distemper, parvo, lepto, and Bordetella), their spay or neuter once they’re old enough, and their microchip. Every one of our animals is microchipped before adoption, and all microchips remain registered to our rescue for life, with adopters listed as secondary contacts. We do this because, sadly, too many dogs end up in bad situations years after adoption and this ensures we can always step in to help if something ever happens. Option 2 is our Adopter-Vetted Adoption, which has no adoption fee. With this option, you’ll receive your puppy with their first round of vaccines and their microchip, and then you’ll be responsible for completing all remaining vaccines and covering the cost of spay/neuter. All puppies must be spayed or neutered by 6 months of age per our adoption contract, and we do require proof of vetting. Yes, we absolutely follow up. Failure to meet this requirement results in the puppy’s return to our care, with exceptions only for severe health concerns verified by a licensed veterinarian. While this option can save you money upfront, please plan carefully for the costs and timing of your puppy’s vet care. Low-cost vaccine and spay/neuter clinics are great resources, but they can have waitlists, so it’s best to check early and stay on schedule. Our adoption process is simple. Start by filling out the adoption application (linked in the pinned comment). Once your application is processed, we’ll let you know if you’re approved and which adoption option you qualify for. From there, we’ll set up a meet and greet with the puppy you’re interested in and help match you with the best fit for your home and lifestyle.
