Story
Meet Anya, a dog whose personality is as bright as a sunny day. She`s a gentle soul, with a goofy side that can make anyone smile. Her energy is infectious, making every game of fetch or tug-of-war an adventure. Anya`s sweet nature and friendliness make her a joy to be around. She came to us with her brother, Thelonious, and they`ve been inseparable ever since. Her playful spirit and loving nature make every day brighter. Anya`s heart is full of love and she`s ready to share it with a forever family. Adopt Anya and let her bring joy, laughter, and a whole lot of love into your life. She has been in play groups but loves the company of people and her brother. Long walks or fenced in back yard is always the best environment for dogs, but exercise is the main goal. We can test our dogs with other dogs at the shelter, but not every dog may get along with your dog this is why if you do have a pet at home we strongly suggest meet and greets before adopting. When adopting an animal at the shelter please know the responsibility of an animal. Most of the animals at the shelter have come in as a stray which mean they may not know how to sit or stay. They also might not have manners such as not to jump. Adopting takes patience. Please research the dog breed you are interested in and remember it takes time. Refer to the sheltering 3/3/3 rule of adopting for help.

Story
Jerry was chained outside in North Carolina. He had no food, water, or shelter, and his collar was physically embedded in his flesh. Animal Control came three times to warn the owner and after no change in his living conditions, they took Jerry to the shelter. In addition to the embedded collar, he had worms, heartworm, an ear infection, bloodshot eyes, and was about twenty pounds underweight. We stepped right up and took him to the vet right away. Jerry is now heartworm negative, has gained weight, is neutered, and up to date on all vaccines and preventatives. He is chipped and current on preventatives, recently receiving a six month proheart heartworm prevention. Jerry gets along with all dogs, big and small. Once, when a small dog started barking and nipping at him, he just calmly put his paw on the little dog and gently held him down. No aggressive reaction at all. He is wonderful with people, including children. However, squirrels are met with extreme interest and much suspicion. He is determined to unravel their conspiracy. Jerry likes to move socks and slippers and other small objects around the house, but doesn’t actually chew them, just rearrange them. He is very flexible and can practically fold himself in half like a little wiener dog Jerry likes to rest his big ol’ head – on window ledges, on chair seats, on your arm while you’re driving-just about anywhere. He is a furious eater, and eats every meal as if it is his first and last. When he’s asleep, he is OUT. He snores away and you could probably drag him around on the floor with one paw and he wouldn’t bat an eye. Then again, you could likely do that while he’s awake and he still wouldn’t bat an eye. He is truly a gentle giant! He is quiet and easy going. He rides great in the car and is very relaxed but he very eager to be the first one in AND out. Jerry walks well on the leash but will pull a bit if he sees a squirrel! He is housebroken and is fine at night or when left home alone out of his crate. He sleeps through the night. Orion has a lovely deep bark that he will show off when people or animals come near his sunroom window – but he is not a yippy, senseless barker. Jerry is currently walked once a day for a little under an hour. Sometimes he’s interested in fetching balls – other times not so much. He does not need a lot of exercise and would be perfectly content sleeping the day away. If not in a fenced area, he should be on a leash because he is on high alert 95% of the time and shows intense interest in all people and animals. He would not be able to resist going to investigate anything within his vision. He will chase cats and is very interested in them so must go to a home without felines. Jerry needs a foster home or forever home. Foster applications are available at our website. You provide the love and we provide all food, supplies, and vet care. If you are interested in adoption, approved application, home visit, and adoption donation of $250 required.
