Story
Meet Lady Love, an American Cocker Spaniel Mix, from deep in Cajun country, south Louisiana. Lady was found to be a stray and that good-hearted person brought her to the shelter, in Gray, Louisiana, a partner of Tired Dog Rescue. No owner claimed her and she was not doing well in the shelter, so Tired Dog Rescue took her in. Once in our care, Lady Love seemed to say; “Laissez les bon temps rouler”, or “Let the good times roll.” Lady is over five years old, given a birthday of September 27, 2020. Once arriving with her foster family, Lady showed all the signs of having been in a stable home. In fact, when introduced to her two foster sisters in the back yard, which went very well, she found the pet door and stuck her head in to explore. As a result, she uses the pet door when she wants or needs to go to the back yard. A clear sign that her owners had a pet door. In her native language, that would be “Lagniappe”, or “a little something extra”. During her intake vet exam, she was confirmed to be Heartworm positive. As such, she will only be available for adoption in our local area on the central Gulf coast. Tired Dog Rescue will continue to pay for her treatment until found to be negative. She is up to date on all vaccinations. She is micro chipped. She is receiving medication to prepare her for her Heartworm treatments, beginning April first. Lady Love has adapted so well to her foster family, consisting of two senior human adults and two small dogs. Lady has been to the local dog park where she has had no issues with other dogs of all sizes. The humans there, including a three-year-old girl automatically have fallen in love with Lady Love. There have been no interactions with cats, but just her personality with all living things, it is hard to imagine her not getting along with cats. Lady loves squeaky toys and going to the dog park. She does well on a leash, in fact she must have been trained to “heel”, as without that command, she walks to the left of whoever has her leash. When her human is walking the perimeter of the dog park, off the leash, she stays in the heel position all the way around the 4-acre park. In the home, Lady has her favorite places for naps. Sometimes on the couch, sometimes in the corner behind the recliner. At night, Lady sleeps on the bed with her foster family. All snuggled up for the night. As mentioned, she is house trained, going out through the pet door on her own. Without a pet door, she would go to the door and stand and stare at it. As an adult, she will have no problems if taken outside on a regular basis but can hold it if left alone for a few hours. Lady would do well in any home situation. With or without other dogs. With humans of all ages. She has shown herself to be closer to one human. In the foster home that just happens to be the male, but she does not ignore the female. As for eating, Lady does need to be fed away from the other dogs. She wants to eat everything in sight, and of course, she needs to be kept on a proper diet. She does prefer softer food but will eat the dry kibble that is left for grazing. Having said that, she is not considered an aggressive eater, just one who is not yet confident that there will always be meals, a sign of a dog being stray for some time. We know that Lady Love will make a great addition to your family, no matter the dynamic or make up. She immediately showed excitement when arriving in her foster home. She dances at the door when her humans come home. She is a “Wiggle Butt”, with happiness. In the Cajun French lingo, when she joins your home it will be “Fais do-do” or “A big Cajun dance party”.
