LOOKING FOR A CALM/PATIENT OWNER:  Approx. 4 years old / Approx. 17 lbs.  Hi, my name’s Wesley!  Mostly Mutts rescued me from animal control & I am so grateful they are helping me find a great furever home!  I came in with a cherry eye & heartworm positive, but both of those things have been medically treated and I’ve fully recovered.  Now I just need a patient & understanding family to adopt me.  I got to spend some time in the prison/foster training program where I had a great time & learned a lot, too!   • OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS:  I met dogs recently at Mostly Mutts and liked them.  I also played nicely with the dogs I met in the prison/foster training program and in my foster home, with just a few minor corrections over whose stuff is whose, so if you have a nice dog at home already, let’s meet and see if we can be pals!  / Cats unknown. / I haven’t met kids at Mostly Mutts, but I can be reactive to certain touches, so best no kids in my new home.       • PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL:  When I first came to Mostly Mutts, it took a little while to feel comfortable & I was very reactive to touch, but now I bond with people much more quickly.  Give me a little time & please be aware that I am sensitive to touch near my backside & you will see my sweet, playful & affectionate side blossom.  When people rushed to get to know me or touched me at times near my hind end, I’ve bitten them, so let me come to you & let you know when I’m ready for affection & please no petting on my hind end.  It only took about a day for my trainer in the prison/foster training program to win me over & then I made other friends fairly quickly.  I did great for my baths & toweling off in the prison/foster training program & at Mostly Mutts too. I am playful with toys & am a lap dog once we are friends.  Now that I am more comfortable with people, my reaction seems to be just a quick head whip as though to say “hey, what are you doing back there?” I like being picked up, just not restrained from being able to say hello to all my other friends.  My trainer says I have a typical bossy, little dog way about me which I think means that I am quite charming. / My energy level is 5-7. • SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY:  I’m a proud graduate of the Mostly Mutts University training program so I’ve learned the ‘sit’, ‘stay’, ‘down’, ‘come’, ‘drop it’, ‘leave it’ & ‘place’ commands.  I also use proper door etiquette & have good leash manners as well as accept nice strangers without jumping. / My crate manners are good at Mostly Mutts, though I used to whine when I was in there. My foster reports that I am doing much better with that and now sleep quietly through the night. My foster also says I am a smart, responsible boy when left out as I am not one to mess with any of your things. I am fine to sleep in my crate or in the bed with you if you let me! Warm cuddles under the covers with my person after my morning potty break make my tail wag! / My potty habits have been good on the shelter & prison/foster training program schedules as well as in my foster home. • LIKES/DISLIKES:  My favorite spot is in a comfy lap where I can give you lots of kisses, but it takes me a bit of time to feel comfortable enough to seek it out.  I also love to burrow under blankets, so cute!  My new spot has been by the window where I can sunbathe and look out at the world outside. I love treats (Pup-Peroni – yum!) but give them to me open-handed so I don’t nip a finger. This is also a great way to make new friends! I like to play with toys, too, especially balls & tug-type toys.  Under belly scratches are the best. / I don’t think I’d enjoy living in a home with a lot of folks coming & going or approaching me too quickly. Other than certain trigger points when being petted, I’m sure I wouldn’t like it if I didn’t get enough love, attention, exercise & training. • MEDICAL:  I'm current on vaccinations, micro-chipped & neutered.  I must be muzzled when I go to the vet as I do not like it there!  My trainers have worked with me on this skill, and I have done well so please ask about that. I am looking for a loving home with a caring family, perhaps you!  My adoption fee is $299.00, & I’m located in Kennesaw, Ga.  April 24, 2024, 8:29 am

LOOKING FOR A GREAT LEADER:  Approx. 7 years old / Approx. 12 lbs.    Hi there, I’m Ruff!  I came to Mostly Mutts from animal control, and I sure am happy to be in their care while I wait to find my new family to love!!  I’m a fun and spirited pup looking for a good leader to follow.  I’m in a foster home with a good leader now, so we’re learning lots of things about me.  • OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS:  No dogs in my new home please, due to my guarding behavior.  I met dogs at Mostly Mutts and was fine until they wanted to play and then I lunged and showed teeth.  I may be fine to be around calm, mellow dogs, but still should not live with them.  / I am getting more acquainted with the cats in my foster home, and I did ok with the crated kittens I rode with in the car.  When I first met cats, I showed some prey drive to chase them if they ran, though I am showing improvement. If you have a dog-savvy cat at home, let’s meet.  / In my foster home, there’s an older teen who understands me and lets me come to him for attention, petting and some good scratches, though sometimes I still growl at him. I think older teens who understand my boundaries could be a fit for me, so let’s meet.  I’ve done some guarding of my bowls and some toys, so best no younger kids.    • PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL:  I have a very sweet personality once I know you and I do best when people let me come to them.  Once I know you, I am a super fun guy.  On a recent daytrip, a volunteer said I was a “good boy” who travels well, enjoyed playing with a squeaky toy, walking in the neighborhood, and watching an episode of Haunted Ireland.  I need ample time on the floor to enjoy being a dog and encourage independence.  Like any dog, sitting in someone's lap all the time and sleeping in a person's bed may encourage people guarding. (My trainer or adoption counselor will be happy to talk to you about this). I seem to prefer women over men, so if there’s a man in my new home, I’d like him to be calm, confident, kind, and for him to want to win me over. / My energy level is 6 – 7 so I’ll like some regular activity please.  • SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY:  I’m a member of the Mostly Mutts University training program and have learned the ‘come’, ‘leave it’ and ‘place’ commands so far. I’m sure I’ll learn even more as I do follow my trainer’s leadership.  With my trainer, I’ve learned that I’m rewarded for calm behavior.  I need a family that will provide leadership and rules so that I don't feel the need to be the leader. A firm ‘no’ lets me know you’re in charge. / I do well in my crate, though I'm more comfortable if you let me come out of the crate on my own rather than reaching in. / My potty manners have been good on the shelter schedule and in my foster home. In my foster home, I let my foster know I needed to go outside by sitting at her feet and staring at her. When she said ‘outside’ I ran to the door in excitement, so she understood I needed to go out.  My weakness is the cold weather, I don’t like doing my business outdoors if it's too cold, so watch me closely that I go outside during frigid weather, so I don’t tinkle on a rug. • LIKES/DISLIKES:  I love fetching squeaky balls and treats. I also like walks, although I still need some work in this area. Sitting on the bench and sunning myself a bit next to the nice volunteers is fun too. / I am cautious when new people approach - I am more comfortable when new people let me initiate the interaction.  I’m sure I wouldn’t like it if I didn’t get enough love, attention, exercise, and training. • MEDICAL:  I'm current on vaccinations, micro-chipped and neutered. I’ll thrive with a family that will provide me with good training and leadership.  My adoption fee is $299.00, and I’m located in Kennesaw, Ga.  April 24, 2024, 8:29 am

Story
LOOKING FOR A GREAT MATCH:  Approx. 8 years old / Approx. 9 lbs.    Hi, my name’s Marvin!  I came to Mostly Mutts from animal control.  I am so glad to be in a loving foster home while I wait for my new family to find me!  Come meet me soon and see if I am your new furry friend!  I came in heartworm positive, but I'll be treated for that soon. • OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS:  I met some dogs recently at Mostly Mutts and although I didn’t want to play with them, I also didn’t show any aggression.  I don’t mind my foster’s dogs either, one who is much bigger than me (60 lbs.) and another about my size (12 lbs.).  When they come to sniff me, I will wag my tail in approval.  If you have a nice dog at home, let’s meet and see if we can be pals.  / There are some nice kitties in my foster home who come and sniff me, rub up against me, etc. and I just stand there and let them!  I’m very tolerant of them and their curiosity about me so if you have a nice kitty at home already, let’s meet! / I met kids at Mostly Mutts (age 10+) and liked them.  However, in both of my foster homes, I started to guard my favorite person when company came over, so older kids such as teens and up will be best, and of course, let’s meet!         • PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL:  I am a sweet boy with a fun nature.  I love to relax and snuggle up to you.  I earned the reputation as a ‘velcro dog’ in my temporary foster home that I was in for 4 days – following my foster mom everywhere. I was cuddly and loving during my stay there.  My new foster mom agrees, stating that I should have been named ‘Shadow’ – I just love to be with my people!  I did start showing some guarding behaviors of my person and Mostly Mutts will be happy to help you with training to overcome that behavior as it is trainable. Since I respond well to verbal correction, my foster mom has given me a firm ‘no’ when I begin to guard, and this has helped me recognize that this is not a good boy behavior.  I was also sweet, fun, and friendly with the photographer when it was my time for a photo shoot!  / My energy level is currently 2-4. • SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY:  In my temporary foster home, I learned the ‘stay’ command, and was working on ‘sit’ and ‘place’ and showed good leash manners.  I love to learn and my new foster is working with me also so check back to see what else I master! / I don’t like being crated at Mostly Mutts as it seems to scare me and I acted tough in it when people approached me, so they moved me to a little room and I liked that better.  In my foster home, they use a baby gate to keep me in their room while they are away and I’m alright with that.  They also leave the TV on for me and I seem to enjoy that too.  I am vocal when I don’t like something, or when I need something, so an apartment/condo type home likely wouldn’t be the best home for me.  / My potty habits are pretty good on the shelter schedule, though I have done some marking.  I respond well to verbal correction, so when I marked once in my new foster home, they verbally corrected me, and I have not done it since.  My neuter and training should also help with that. • LIKES/DISLIKES:  I’m an affectionate guy who loves to collect cuddles. I love laps and being near my person. Napping and snuggling are my favorite things!  The volunteers have discovered that I love to sit out on the benches outside the shelter. Taking in the spring breeze and getting some pets, I can’t think of anything better!  I’m also a treat fan, and I am learning to take them more gently.  It helps to offer the treat in an open palm with the word ‘gentle’ before offering.  / I don’t like to be left alone too much, so I would love a stay-at-/work-from-home family member.  Otherwise, I’m sure I wouldn’t like it if I didn’t get enough love, attention, exercise, and training. • MEDICAL:  I'm current on vaccinations, micro-chipped and neutered.  I have luxating patellas, which are not uncommon in small dogs. I take a daily joint supplement, Cosequin, to help my joints feel their best.  I also walk best with a harness, so it doesn’t push on my trachea making me cough. Unfortunately, my previous owner did not keep me on a monthly heartworm preventative, so I am heartworm positive.  Mostly Mutts will cover the cost of my treatment with their vet, so local adoption only, please. I am looking for a home where I will be a much-loved family member!  My adoption fee is $299.00, and I’m located in Kennesaw, Ga.  April 24, 2024, 8:29 am
