Story
It was Christmas Eve at a gas station in Vidalia, Louisiana, when he walked up to me. He was nothing but skin and bones, ribs showing, eyes tired, moving like the world had already taken everything it could from him. He was starving—not just for food, but for affection. Still, he was humble. He didn’t beg or jump or whine. He just stood there patiently, as if he was hoping for kindness but prepared to go without it. I fed him right there at the gas station, hoping it would make him happy and strong enough to move on. It did make him happy—but he wouldn’t leave. He stayed close, quiet and grateful, like he’d made a decision. So I made one too. I named him Buddy, because that’s exactly what he is. He’s gentle with my dogs. He’s thankful for every meal, every bed, every kind word. He loves my home. And I love him. I would keep him forever if I could. But it breaks my heart to say that I can’t. Buddy deserves a forever home—a place where his humble heart will finally know permanence.
