Story
If you kinda miss your grandpa, and need a gruff old boy to go fishin' with, Tank might be your dog! He acts grumpy in his kennel but outside he's just a mellow meatball! Pretty sure he's got some chow-chow somewhere in his linage (black tongue) so we bet that (just like Gpa!) he will be a great protector when he finds his forever family!

Story
Hello, I'm Velma. I'm under the witness protection program and they changed my name. Actually, that's not true. Lol! I just thought, new life, new name, new me! So, a little about me. I'm a little shy at first. But once I get to know you, we become best friends for life! I really like to follow my humans around all the time. They are just so interesting. Especially around here. They are always so busy! I don't like big noises. It makes me jumpy. Maybe that's just past trauma. Who knows. Anyways, hopefully someone will think I'm cute. I want to cuddle up on a comfy couch and watch some Friends with someone....

Story
Mia would be best suited for a single female. She is partial and protective to her mom. She was adopted from Joplin Humane. She has been with us for 3 years, she loves to play fetch that quickly turns into a game of keep away! She will greet you at the door usually with a gift and the best wiggles ever, snuggle with you in your favorite chair and would love to sleep in the bed with you if you let her but she does snore ,also perfectly content in her own bed next to yours. She knows how to sit, shake and will talk your ears off. She does have allergies and has been through a serious of testing and is currently on allergy shots (given at home) or vet. Her vet is Pinnacle in Neosho Mo and records can be provided upon request.

Story
Lou is a 1 - 2 yr old male Pitbull mix. He has a high energy level, so he would benefit from an active family with a fenced yard and plenty of space for daily exercise and play. He is loose and wiggly when greeting, and likes to sit by his person for snuggles and kisses. Lou does moderately pull on a leash, but with basic obedience training, he should be walking like a champ in no time! He is food motivated and knows the command sit. He mixes well with other dogs in a kennel, but is afraid of cats in the shelter environment. Dogs are generally tested with dogs of their own size; and dog meets with the resident dogs are always encouraged. Our cat test should be used as a general-purpose screening only to rule out overt aggression; we always recommend caution when introducing dogs to cats in the home. Recommendation on suitability of placement with children by their ages is based on behavioral observations including energy level and response to body handling. We never recommend leaving young children unsupervised with dogs, and we cannot guarantee the behavior of dogs with children, other pets, or cats. Behavior evaluations should be considered as a snapshot of the behavior of the dog at this point in time; JHS believes all dog families need to be prepared to invest time and energy into training as well as provide common sense management of their new dog. We always encourage family to do some research on the breeds or mixes of breeds prior to adoption as many can have some unique characteristics that may or may not fit into their families. Always remember that the majority of dogs at our shelter have been exposed to or may have kennel cough. Kennel cough is contagious to other dogs, please talk to your vet if you have any questions about kennel cough prior to adoption. Please ask your adoption counselor at time of adoption if you have any unanswered questions regarding illnesses and treatments of the pet that you are adopting. For more information about this dog or any others at our Shelter, please visit www.joplinhumane.org. We are the Joplin Humane Society in Joplin, Missouri. 417-623-3642.
