Story
I am Squeaky and 65 pounds of playfulness, affection, intelligence, curiosity and my stout medium sized body enjoys being outdoors. I love soft stuffy toys that squeak, splash pools, short neighborhood and canyon walks, car rides, splashing in the river, watching TV, hugging, and sleeping on a soft bed. I am a joyful funny guy that thinks I’m a lap dog. I am ready to bring you daily belly laughs in return for belly rubs!Living in a shelter for two years is heartbreaking, distressing and painful for any dog but when you are only four years old it is a tragedy! I was found wandering the streets of Camp Verde as a stray in October 2024. I was adopted shortly after arriving at the shelter but the child I lived with was allergic to pets, so I was surrendered. My adoptive family shared that I was good with kids and yet no one has come to rescue me.One of the shelter volunteers has been my foster mom taking me home with her for days at a time. We traveled between VOC and Phoenix throughout the summer for a couple of days every week or so. My time out of the shelter is invaluable and I love being in her home as it’s quieter than the shelter, I can relax, and my spirits are brightened. I am a rule follower at heart, so I do not chew on anything but my toys, I don’t mark anywhere and have an awesome time playing with new toys. This past week I had first time fun with a puzzle that hid my food...what a crazy concept! It kept me occupied for 45 minutes when I was home alone. I am a huge snuggle fan at heart as I become very attached and loyal when I get to know people who show me love and kindness. My volunteer foster family can tell you lots more about my personality. My foster family hoped that I and their household dog would be best friends and this is still a relationship in process. I need to be the only dog in your home with a fenced yard as I have just a little experience living with another dog. Since I have been a shelter resident for a while I need time to check people out, so you may need to visit me a few times so we can learn about each other. I make strong attachments with people that make me feel comfy. If I don’t know someone well, I may bark, but once we are together for a while all is good, calm, and relaxed. Staff at the shelter are working with me to come when barking by saying ‘Squeaky come, no bark’ and I am listening in return for a little kibble treat. I take treats softly from your hand, know sit, and come to you when called.I am neutered, microchipped, up to date on vaccines, house broken and a volunteer favorite!Away from shelter stressors, I am a relaxed, calm dog and a kind, happy, thankful, and faithful companion. I have so much to offer to someone who is willing to see me as the lovable great dog that I am, and I would be ecstatic to have a forever sleepover with you! Please let me be your exceptional, bright, and best forever dog. If you are a U.S. military veteran or Gold Star family you can apply to adopt me through our rescue partners at www.petsforpatriots.org and receive discounts and other specials when you adopt me. Or just contact my friends at the Humane Society of Sedona at: 928.282.4679 any day of the week 10am-4pm; excluding major holidays. Come spend time with me at the shelter so we can hang out in the park, share some love, and get to know each other. I really can`t wait to start a life of attachment and joy away from the shelter.

Story
I’m 5 ½ year old 73-pound Millie and here’s a glimpse into my life since December 2024 when I came to the shelter as a stray. I can’t remember how long I was alone wandering the streets, but I remember how afraid of cars and coyotes I was. At first, I tried curling up into the smallest ball possible in my kennel, I was rough and had little to no manners. I soon realized that the shelter staff wouldn’t let me be a wild boy anymore, and I am so thankful.I have been working with staff and a trainer and learning that an old dog can learn new behaviors. My excitement has mellowed and I am working to let my happy, curious spirit shine through. I can be shy at first as I have been at the shelter a long time and I am still learning that people are safe and kind. I am a very fun and lovable dog, but at times I play rough and I`m strong on a leash sometimes. I can get mouthy and will put my leash and other things in my mouth but I am learning to redirect my behavior. Some of these behaviors will change when I am rescued from the shelter and not stimulated by all these stressors. I need a patient, experienced, caring and strong person to help me achieve better manners.I will thrive in a home as the only dog as I have had no experience living with another animal. I need a rescue family who will share regular walks and explore the bigger world with me. Perhaps you can help me develop more canine skills and maybe a high five trick. I yearn for companionship and can’t wait to return to the life I had before. I hope you have an outside area where I can stretch my legs and play with you and my toys, as being outside is soothing and so much fun. After a day of play I crave a good head and neck rub.I am ready to run, play and bring joy to our lives together. My stunning blue and brown eyes and bouncy ears will turn heads while walking in your neighborhood. I am smart, interesting, an okay leash walker often, enjoy being outdoors, and eager to please my humans. Living my best life would include walks with my own family, feeling grass under my feet and becoming fit and trim again!I am spayed, microchipped, current on all my vaccinations and house broken. If you are a U.S. military veteran or Gold Star family you can apply to adopt me through our rescue partners at www.petsforpatriots.org and receive discounts and other specials when you adopt me. Or just contact the caring staff at the Humane Society of Sedona at: 928.282.4679 any day of the week 10am-4pm; excluding major so we can start our bonding process and share adventures together. I dream of having a chance to find my forever home and settling down when I am away from the confinement, noise and stress that come with shelter life. Please, it’s time for a ‘Meet and Greet” with me.

Story
Benson is smart, loyal, and energetic!BENSON Benson is a smart and affectionate boy who is ready to become the perfect addition to the right family. He loves swimming, running, playing with people and other dogs, and simply hanging out in the yard. With excellent manners, Benson listens well and can comfortably spend several hours alone, making him a good fit for a family with a busy lifestyle. Benson would thrive in a patient, calm, and structured home. He prefers slow introductions to new people and animals and would do best in a home without cats or other small animals. He is naturally more comfortable and social with women, but he can form a strong bond with men who give him the patience, understanding, and time he needs. A securely fenced yard with plenty of room to run and play would be ideal. BACK STORY Benson and his six littermates were born at Pets Return Home after their mother was surrendered as a stray to a shelter in Yuma. Benson and his brother Barney are still here at the ranch, and they play wonderfully together. BEHAVIOR PROFILE Benson is extremely intelligent and would enjoy learning new tricks, playing with interactive toys, or relaxing with a favorite bone. He is goofy, playful, and loves being part of a family. Benson is crate-trained and is content sleeping in his crate or on his dog bed. He is also leash-trained and understands basic leash manners. POSITIVE ATTRIBUTES • Loves quiet moments and gentle affection. • Professional snuggler and couch companion. • Quick learner who enjoys training games. • Loves working with people and thrives on praise. • Enjoys being part of a family. • Already has excellent house manners. • Guaranteed to keep you smiling. BEHAVIOR CHALLENGES • Shy at first, but blossoms into a loyal companion once trust is established. • Tends to bond most readily with adults, especially women. • Thrives in a calm, predictable environment. • Appreciates a quieter home away from loud or sudden noises. • Has a sensitive nature and feels safest with a steady routine. • Has unique quirks that improve with structure, enrichment, and consistency. • Does best when walked in low-traffic areas where he can relax and enjoy himself. • May require solid fencing and some distance from high-traffic areas. • Prefers to enjoy meals and special toys in his own space. • Is continuing to learn gentler play manners. • Blossoms with kindness and patience, revealing the wonderful companion inside. • Alert and observant, Benson feels safest in calm surroundings.
