Story
Dog Name: Binx Breed: American Stafford Shire Sex: Female  Age: 5 years 7 months  Weight: 80lbs  Medical Needs: none  Housebroken: Scheduled Trained  Crate trained: Yes  Good in the car: Yes  Good on a leash: Very strong, will pull but is better with the prong  Energy level: low Need a fenced in yard: No Dog Friendly: Yes, with proper introduction If yes, does your foster need another dog in its adoptive homes? No Cat Friendly? Yes Kid Friendly: Yes  If yes, what's the youngest child you'd recommend they be placed with?  10 due to her size and strength. She’s currently fostered with a 4 year old and he’s pretty dog savvy but has been intimidated by her size.  Special traits that make your foster special or that we need to know about them? Binx was originally a cruelty case from WV and a shelter favorite. She’s fairly calm and submissive. She’s a very sweet girl who would love a calm home and someone who isn’t gone long hours. Binx will whine in her crate. She craves the attention of her people. She enjoys her walks and back scratches. She’s a little too interested in fosters moms turkeys but she’s been great with the kittens and other dogs. Binx has a very BIG appetite, you’d think she’s never eaten before. So we try and feed her small amounts at a time so she doesn’t inhale it too quickly and would recommend the use of a slow feeder. If you happen to have other dogs, we’d suggest feeding her separately as well. She’s never had an incident here but did once growl at the other foster dog while she was eating. Once we learned that we’ve never allowed another dog in the same vicinity as her during meal time.  Binx would love nothing more than to find her forever home with you.  Fosters Location: Dover  Application can be found here: https://www.grrde.org/adoption-application (if you already have an approved application on file email GrassRootsDE@gmail.com and ask the app team to pull your app  ##1816356##

Story
Dog Name: Duke Foster Location: Millsboro, DE Sex: Neutered Male Age: 2 years Weight: approx 70lbs Medical Needs: None  Housebroken: Yes, he will whine if he needs to go out Crate trained: Yes Good in the car: Yes Good on a leash: Yes – likes to try to play with the leash to walk himself at first but responds to correction  Energy level: medium but he’s young and loves to play Need a fenced in yard: Not necessary, but always a plus. He enjoys leashed walks so even with a fence, walks are highly recommended/encouraged.  Dog Friendly: No, Duke prefers people to other pups. No 4-legged friends for him   Do they need another dog: No, Duke would actually be better as an only dog. He can be possessive of his space, so owners would have to be vigilant if there was another dog in the home. Cat Friendly: No Kid Friendly: Not sure but he’s really sweet and lovable. May be a little too energetic for small children  Special traits that make your foster special or that we need to know about them? Duke has alot of love to give. He knows sit and down. He’s a good smart boy. No accidents in the house. Loves to play with toys and chew on bones. He’s not food aggressive but hasn’t been food tested around other dogs yet. Enjoys playing tug. He has some energy because he’s still pretty young and isn’t a little boy so he needs someone able to control him at times when he gets very excited. He likes to bark and growl when he plays so he needs someone to understand him. He’s such a good boy looking for his fur ever home  Application can be found here: https://www.grrde.org/adoption-application (if you already have an approved application on file email GrassRootsDE@gmail.com and ask the app team to pull your app ##1780310##

Dog Name: ToffeeBreed: American Staffordshire Terrier mixSex: M NeuteredAge: 4Weight: 40 lbsMedical Needs: DEAFHousebroken: In ProgressCrate trained: No- has improved over first 2 weeks of fostering. He does ok up to 4 hours. Good in the car: YesGood on a leash: Some pulling, will need assertive handler.  Energy level: Low-medium Need a fenced in yard: Yes, or kept on leash.Dog Friendly: YesIf yes, does your foster need another dog in its adoptive homes? Might help to get him adjusted to routine, but not required.Cat Friendly? YesKid Friendly: Yes If yes, what's the youngest child you'd recommend they be placed with? Small children not recommended as Toffee does not have the best manners at this time. 10 and older recommended. Special traits that make your foster special or that we need to know about them? Toffee is an amazingly sweet dog. His deafness does present a challenge as he is just now learning manners, so some experience with deaf dogs would be helpful. He will need a strict routine and someone who is patient with him while he learns. He is a great size at 40lbs, however some strength is required to redirect him. He will try to get things off the counter and table if he thinks food or water is up there.  Fosters Location: Lewes Application can be found here: https://www.grrde.org/adoption-application (if you already have an approved application on file email GrassRootsDE@gmail.com and ask the app team to pull your app ##1966500##

Story
ABOUT TWIX Twix is a 1 year old terrier mix with a heartbreaking backstory. This little girl was saved from a hoarding case in West Virginia, at only a few months old. The local animal control took her and her littermates to safety, after living in unimaginable conditions. She stayed at their shelter, with her siblings, for 9 months and received no adoption interest. Typically, puppies are adopted quickly, but given the environment she was raised in, Twix was fearful of people, often seen cowering or running away from strangers. The shelter in West Virginia no longer had space for her, so she came to Delaware! When she arrived at HAP, she displayed some submissive, nervous behaviors but began to open up with other dogs. After being cooped up in a hoarders house, to an overcrowded shelter, to HAP, Twix is still settling in and can be nervous at the shelter. While she is not aggressive with children, she trembles and cowers with loud or fast kids, so older kids that can respect her space would be best. She would likely thrive in a quieter home environment, where she can feel safe and loved. If you are interested in adopting this dog, please submit an adoption questionnaire! Our adoption process is on a first-come, best-match basis and we are not able to hold animals. If you are interested in this specific dog but it ends up not being the best fit upon meeting, our adoption counselors will work with you to help find a match! All household members, including children and other dogs, must come along for the meeting to make sure it's a good fit. If a match is made, we encourage same-day adoptions! Our adoption fees include the animals' spay/neuter, microchip, age-appropriate vaccinations and preventatives, fecal testing, heartworm testing, and a small bag of food to get you started.
