Meet MERCI! Sweet Merci is about 4 years old, 39 pounds, female, white and brown terrier mix. This sweetie is such a happy gal; sauntering over with butt wiggles to greet everyone she meets with face nuzzles. What makes her extremely happy personality even more redeeming is that it is clear Merci has not always been properly cared for. Merci settles down for a nice nap or just to hang out with her people. She is learning to enjoy the creature comforts in her foster home. It took a few days to figure out the soft comfy dog beds were for her and she did not have to sleep on the hard floor! She has done well with other dogs. Merci has great house manners. Poor Merci has not always been properly taken care of; she arrived at the shelter with a cherry eye, some patchy fur, and heartworm. Because she was so so sweet, the shelter made an urgent plea to save her....PetConnect Rescue was able to come to her rescue, bring her to the DC area to a great foster, and will give her the necessary medical care she needs. Her eye already has been surgically fixed, the fur/skin will resolve with good food and care, and she will be treated for heartworm. So now Merci has left her horrible past behind and is ready to find her new, and this time, forever home. She has so much love and happiness to give to her new family for many years! Merci would love to curl up in your lap to hang out on a winter evening; she loves to cuddle and get pets! Merci is up-to-date on vaccines, preventatives. She is eager to find her person(s) to love! ***Please note that our first step is to fill out an application (it does not commit you in anyway but allows us to discuss with you if you and the dog are a good fit). Artie is a sprinter, not a marathoner: she loves short bursts of high-energy play and then settles beautifully in the home. She would thrive with an active adopter who enjoys hiking, wants to explore beginner dog sports, or simply loves a dog who is always excited for the next fun thing. She is almost fully housebroken, is friendly with new people, and genuinely adores adults and older children who have learned to be respectful of dogs. Artie also gets along with most other dogs, but she isn’t big on sharing toys or food, so she’d do best as either an only dog or with a very savvy, structured home that can manage resources thoughtfully. She can be dog selective so a slow introduction is necessary. Artie is confident and environmentally stable, not much fazes her. She’s affectionate, social, and happiest when snuggled up next to you. She does have some FOMO behaviors in the crate, but she improves significantly when crated away from high excitement. Because of her high prey drive, Artie should not live with small pets. She is being fostered by her trainer (we just love a well trained dog!) and will come with an instruction manual of how to keep her new-found structure going to keep her on her learning journey.
