Story
Hi, we are the State puppies! We were found on the doorstep of a vet clinic and the wonderful people there were able to take us to the Humane Society so we could find our furever homes! We are adorable and appear that we will be a medium size dog, probably weighing in at 30-40 lbs when we are all grown up. Our breed test shows that we are ½ Staffordshire Terrier with a mix of 11 other breeds and our relatives are just like our names – all over the place! To apply to adopt from Polk County Humane Society, you can use the adoption application, process and links that you will find on this page: polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have a meet & greet scheduled, so be sure you have looked at our adoption process, completed the adoption application and use the link on that page to request an appointment before you come to the Humane Society. Our adoption application form is simple and there is a place for you to ask any questions you have about our pets on the form. We look forward to receiving your adoption application and setting up a meet & greet soon. ##1623451##

Story
Hi, I'm Hank! I came to the shelter as a stray. I am estimated to be around 8 years old. I am very sweet and love attention. I do have a tendancy to bark at new people but once I know we're friends I will love you forever! Hank was diagnosed with Megaesophogus. Megaesophagus in dogs is a condition that leads to the inability of food and liquid to pass into the stomach. It occurs when there is an abnormal enlargement of the esophagus, which interrupts the normal flow of food and liquid. He has to be kept in an upright position during feeding and for 30 minutes after to help digest the food properly. He will be sent home with a custom Bailey chair, which is a special chair to hold them into place.  My DNA results came in and I am 64% American Staffordshire Terrier, 34% American Pit Bull Terrier, 2% Labrador Retriever, and 100% Good Dog!!! If you're interested in adopting Hank, fill out an adoption application online at polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt ##1670250##

Story
Super sweet dog with a great personality, loves people. She was abandoned. Just spayed and has rabies shot, very healthy otherwise. The $169 just covers her spay surgery and rabies shot, nothing else. No other shots currently that I know of. Gets along great with all my dogs (5 others). She's not good with cats, but she is learning "leave it". May have had pups 2-3 months ago, these were not found with the dog or in the area. She weighs about 68 lbs. She needs a loving home, with an active person and possibly room to run or regular walks. I can't keep her due to having 5 other dogs and cats too. She knows sit and stay, and no, learning leave it now.

These pups are in Springfield, Missouri too!

Story
We have had Angel and Cloud since they was a wee pups. Angel is one of the sweetest dogs, she would love to be a couch potato, but also loves to go and lay in the sun, she isn't to big on going for car rides. Cloud is a very smart dog, he knows sit and has been working on leash training. They have been crate trained and live in a back yard during the day, but would easily get used to going for walks.

Story
Behaviors- Maria loves being outdoors, she lays on the doggy bed we have out there for her for hours. She is still afraid to come inside at times but does come in eventually. Maria is still very timid; she likes her crate and stays in there when she is inside. 😺Cats: Doesn’t mind cats 🦮Other dogs: Doesn’t mind them but she is still learning how to play Children: Doesn’t mind kids at all but she doesn’t like loud noises so older children are better Adults: Maria is still scared of humans, but we are working on it. Potty Training Progress: Goes outside to potty pretty well. Maria is still working on leash training, and she doesn’t like her collar pulled. We haven’t tried it yet, but maybe a harness would be a better option for her. Maria is very sweet but still very timid. She is trying to come out of her shell and she does a cute little dance when she wants attention, but she is still unsure if it’s okay. You can see that she wants to be loved so badly, but she has had a rough life so far and is still very apprehensive. We think with patience, and love, she will get there. Maria is a smaller bulldog, and we think her ideal adopter would be a single person or a couple that is home most of the day and has a fenced yard so she can continue her love of sunbathing, watching birds, gazing at the sky and dreaming of her furever family.

Story
This absolute dreamboat is 1.5 year old boxer mix named Scuppers! He is super sweet and friendly and loves to get attention. He's an active boy who loves to go on adventures, even if it is just a walk around the block. He'd love a fenced yard where he can run and play to his hearts content. He could use some training since he does have a lot of energy and doesn't know what to do with it. Scuppers has been in play groups here at the shelter and does well with other dogs after a meet and greet! He would prefer no kids under 14, they are just too little for him! He's a big boy and doesn't always know where his body is going! He bound to give you unconditional love and loyalty for the rest of his life if you bring him home!
