Story
Hi, I'm Bobblehead! I am a young adult stout bully mix. I tried to audition for the next John Wick movie, but they said I was too friendly. Even though I don't have ears, my puppy dog eyes can melt anyone's heart, which is my strategy to get all the treats! I can sit nicely when asked and I like to play! We could play fetch with a ball or tug with a rope! I'm a bit too rough and tumble for a household with children. I love fast food, so cats and other small animals are a definite no for my new home. If you're looking to add a lovable smoosh into your adult only home, come meet me at the shelter!

Story
Hi, I'm Milly Mae! I am a large bully type terrier mix with so much love to give! I am a lovely dog with an amazing, snuggly personality. Some volunteers have taken me on dog's day out field trips and I always behave myself and have a great time! My energy levels are moderate to high, but I also enjoy couch naps. Treats and toys are equally exciting to me so I get jumpy sometimes during play. I cannot safely live with cats or small animals, but am available to meet potential doggie friends. If you're looking for a gorgeous gorgeous girlie to be your bestie, come meet me! I am getting a bit depressed living in the kennels, so I am looking for either a temporary foster home or a permanent adopter.

Story
Big Mac is a 3 year old 75lb fully deaf am staff/pitbull mix. He graduated from a 13 week private training program at Precision Dog Training Academy and is house trained, kennel trained and knows basic obedience including sit, down, platform, stay, free and heel and is a quick learner if food is involved. He loves to sleep but also has an energetic side that can be worn off with zoomies, long walks outdoors, treadmill walks and other dog playtime. He is people and dog friendly but would need a dog companion that can properly correct him and teach him how to play as he loves to but doesn't quite know how. He is a cuddler and likens himself to a lap dog and splits his time sleeping on the floor, dog beds, sofas, human beds, his kennel and his humans. He would thrive in a home where someone has time to spend with him, can continue his training and has a fenced yard for zoomies. He is being rehomed due to no fault of his own. His dog sibling has not been able to neutralize his feelings

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Hip is the sweetest boy, although life has thrown him a rough patch, he’s safe now and enjoying a warm, soft bed, plenty of food and drink. Most of all, watching him start to feel playful again is the best! He’s always happy to see the volunteers come in, very good about going out to take care of business and then ready to come inside. With the Missouri weather this winter, who can blame him! It’s a joy watching him improve and gain strength every day. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Hop is recovering from a very rough situation life has dealt him. Thin and banged up, left to forage with his brother and sister in the woods, he is now on his way to his best times. Hop loves to play games, especially tug of war, any kind of fetch. His focus is amazing. Hop is very affectionate and will make a wonderful companion for an experienced pitty owner who appreciates what the breed offers and understands impulse control issues he may have. He’s a smart boy and doing very well with basic commands. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.April 25, 2024, 12:04 am

Story
We show our dogs by appointment only upon an approved adoption application. If you are reading this, we are still accepting applications for Tiana.  OUR ONLINE APPLICATION CAN BE FOUND AT KCPAWS.ORG or click this link: https://form.jotform.com/230296113596155 Meet Tiana! She is around 3-4 years old and weighs about 50 lbs. A good medium sized dog. We are so grateful we were able to get her out in time. She was so excited to come here and has been nothing but sweet to all of our staff and volunteers. Tiana is very affectionate and loves to have her wiggly butt scratched! She also loves to play in water.   Tiana, unfortunately does have some medical special needs. We took her to the vet for a third time as we had been trying to determine why she has over the last few months been prone to UTIs. After multiple test, and medication trails, it has been discovered that she has stage 2 kidney disease. Tiana came to us all the way from Texas, she had been dumped on a rural highway and left behind by her owner, she ended up at a high kill shelter and simply because she was a black pit bull, and as we know black pit bulls are the hardest dogs to find homes for, she was scheduled to be euthanized for space. I saw her sweet face on a Facebook post from the city shelter and pulled her immediately. A few days later, she was on the road to KC and to us. Cut to a year of her being at our shelter, she finds a home that I thought was going to be the best thing ever. I did her home visit, the family and home were so nice, the adopter asked great questions and kept in contact with me for a while, sending pictures and telling me how great she was. One year later, she gets brought into boarding while her adopter is out of town... and they don't come back for her. And we find that she has been having issues urinating, but her adopter hadn't taken her to the vet. So here she is again, in the shelter, I can only assume because she was having accidents, and her kidneys are failing her. Even with everything she's been through, and everything she's currently going through, she is the happiest girl. She gives everyone she meets big hugs and kisses and will do anything to get a little extra snuggle time. She is happy and loves to go for walks. Still, she is here, without a home of her own. Tiana loves people and would be great in a home with kids, however we have not had any cats around since having her so we would have to introduce her to any cats that may be in the home before we could say for sure if she would be okay with them. Tiana can be protective of her people at times, so it is important that she is in a home with owners that are committed to keeping he well socialized.  Tiana gets a long with many dogs but there have been a few that she has not meshed well with, she prefers chill, not so in your face playmates. But she would be perfectly happy to be an only dog and get all of the attention.  Much like their feline counterparts, black dogs find it difficult when it comes to adoption. Particularly larger black dogs – they are often left forgotten in what many shelter works call black dog syndrome. Basically, black pets typically are passed over for dogs and cats with different colors or unique markings.  If you have room in your heart and home for a sweet girl who eager to please, willing to learn, and very sweet, please consider applying for Tiana!April 24, 2024, 8:30 am

Story
Legend is 5 years old, Spayed, Microchipped, and Up to date on vetting Adoption fee SPONSORED Legend is an incredibly sweet cuddle bug who loves to give kisses and hugs to her people and loves to go for walks! She is a sensitive soul who can be nervous around new people and new surroundings, she needs a confident owner who will help her overcome her fears and set expectations for her so that she can rely on structure to help with her nerves. Legend is potty trained and walks great on a leash and knows all of her basic commands. She gets along well with calm, respectful dogs, who will give her time to warm up. She does need slower intros with new dogs as she will be nervous at first. Legend would do best in a home with no small children, but is not aggressive towards kids, the loud noises and fast movements just make her nervous and she would be most comfortable in an adult only home or possibly teenage age kids rather than young children.  Legend is really the sweetest dog with a little patience and TLC, She just needs a little time to come out of her shell. Once she does, you'll never get her out of your lap!  April 24, 2024, 8:30 am

Story
Hi, I'm Gamora! I am a young adult medium Boxer mix. I am a happy, moderate energy wigglebutt. I love people, taking walks, and running around. Attention, affection, and treats are my favorite things. When I first came to the shelter I was a bit shy but I have really opened up and now I don't know a stranger! I am a bit socially awkward with other dogs though, so if you have dogs at home I'll need to meet them first.
