Story
Sweet old man Bear! Bear came to us from OK where he was scheduled to be euthanized for space/medical. One of our fosters fell in love with his squishy face and couldn't let that happen. Bear is approximately 7 years old. He is currently in foster with kids, dogs, and cats. He is so so lazy. Want a dog to Netflix and chill with? He's your dog! Don't want a high energy dog? He's got ya! Need a dog to keep you warm this winter? He'll snuggle right up and keep you warm. All he wants is food, belly rubs, and some yummy snackos! Oh, and tennis balls are life! He loves his tennis balls. Bear was treated for mange, and is still working on growing the fur back in some areas. Don't most old men have bald spots? It doesn't bother him, he still wiggles his butt just the same. Adopt our cuddle Bear!

Story
This dog is a courtesy listing for a partner rescue group, The Rescue Project. Visit the link to apply to adopt:  https://therescueproject.net/adoptionapplication Legend is an incredibly sweet cuddle bug who loves to give kisses and hugs to her people and loves to go for walks! She is a sensitive soul who can be nervous around new people and new surroundings, she needs a confident owner who will help her overcome her fears and set expectations for her so that she can rely on structure to help with her nerves. Legend is potty trained and walks great on a leash and knows all of her basic commands. She gets along well with calm, respectful dogs, who will give her time to warm up. She does need slower intros with new dogs as she will be nervous at first. Legend would do best in a home with no small children, but is not aggressive towards kids, the loud noises and fast movements just make her nervous and she would be most comfortable in an adult only home or possibly teenage age kids rather than young children.  Legend is really the sweetest dog with a little patience and TLC, She just needs a little time to come out of her shell. Once she does, you'll never get her out of your lap!  December 6, 2023, 3:51 pm

Story
We are a matched based adoption agency, if you see a dog in our program in which you are interested in adopting, please fill out our online application at kcpaws.org and one of our adoptions counselors will be in touch once your application has been screened. Please note that we do require dogs to meet all members of the family including existing pets in the home before finalizing during your in home adoption. Age:1-2 years   Weight: Medium, 40 lbs    Female, Spayed  Microchipped Meet Nimera! Nimera is a young adult Staffordshire Terrier who has quickly become a staff and volunteer favorite at KC PAWS. Mostly because of her ability to transform from a dog into a weighted blanket in seconds. If there was an award for best snuggler, we think she'd take the gold! Unfortunately, Nimera had a very rough beginning before coming to us. She was found tied to a bridge nearby our rescue. We found out she had been adopted through a 'free adoption day event' at a larger shelter the month prior. Through her microchip we found her adopter had a violent criminal history, and we believe she unfortunately suffered at his hands before he left her tied to the bridge where she was luckily found by some good Samaritans who then called us. Normally you would think she would be terrified of people. She was the opposite, so thankful to be saved and to be loved she literally jumped into our arms and we carried her back to the car! She is super snuggly, has done well with doggy playmates, especially her bff Teegan the lab mix, and loves kids.   She walks great on a leash. She is currently working on learning basic obedience and is very food motivated. We can't say for sure where she is on potty training being that we have only seen her so far in a shelter environment, so any potential adopter should be willing to potty train.    Nimera will need a home with no cats.    She is all around a great dog who just wants to be close to her people. If you would be interested in meeting her, you can fill out our online dog adoption application at kcpaws.org    December 6, 2023, 3:51 pm

Story
We show our dogs by appointment only upon an approved adoption application. If you are reading this, we are still accepting applications for Tiana.  OUR ONLINE APPLICATION CAN BE FOUND AT KCPAWS.ORG or click this link: https://form.jotform.com/230296113596155 Meet Tiana! She is around 3-4 years old and weighs about 50 lbs. A good medium sized dog. We are so grateful we were able to get her out in time. She was so excited to come here and has been nothing but sweet to all of our staff and volunteers. Tiana is very affectionate and loves to have her wiggly butt scratched! She also loves to play in water.   Tiana, unfortunately does have some medical special needs. We took her to the vet for a third time as we had been trying to determine why she has over the last few months been prone to UTIs. After multiple test, and medication trails, it has been discovered that she has stage 2 kidney disease. Tiana came to us all the way from Texas, she had been dumped on a rural highway and left behind by her owner, she ended up at a high kill shelter and simply because she was a black pit bull, and as we know black pit bulls are the hardest dogs to find homes for, she was scheduled to be euthanized for space. I saw her sweet face on a Facebook post from the city shelter and pulled her immediately. A few days later, she was on the road to KC and to us. Cut to a year of her being at our shelter, she finds a home that I thought was going to be the best thing ever. I did her home visit, the family and home were so nice, the adopter asked great questions and kept in contact with me for a while, sending pictures and telling me how great she was. One year later, she gets brought into boarding while her adopter is out of town... and they don't come back for her. And we find that she has been having issues urinating, but her adopter hadn't taken her to the vet. So here she is again, in the shelter, I can only assume because she was having accidents, and her kidneys are failing her. Even with everything she's been through, and everything she's currently going through, she is the happiest girl. She gives everyone she meets big hugs and kisses and will do anything to get a little extra snuggle time. She is happy and loves to go for walks. Still, she is here, without a home of her own. Tiana loves people and would be great in a home with kids, however we have not had any cats around since having her so we would have to introduce her to any cats that may be in the home before we could say for sure if she would be okay with them. Tiana can be protective of her people at times, so it is important that she is in a home with owners that are committed to keeping he well socialized.  Tiana gets a long with many dogs but there have been a few that she has not meshed well with, she prefers chill, not so in your face playmates. But she would be perfectly happy to be an only dog and get all of the attention.  Much like their feline counterparts, black dogs find it difficult when it comes to adoption. Particularly larger black dogs – they are often left forgotten in what many shelter works call black dog syndrome. Basically, black pets typically are passed over for dogs and cats with different colors or unique markings.  If you have room in your heart and home for a sweet girl who eager to please, willing to learn, and very sweet, please consider applying for Tiana!December 6, 2023, 3:51 pm
