Story
See Grover live in action: https://www.swh.org/staff-favorites.htmlGrover is an Anatolian mix who came to us as a stray in March 2022. He was terrified and didn't know anyone or where he was going. He got some much needed TLC from our staff and his confidence has since grown tremendously. He is more outgoing, treat motivated, and LOVES to hang out with staff at the front desk. He thinks he is a lap dog and can easily be found in someone's lap or in a chair of his own! Grover is looking for a home with no kids and no other pets, as he wants to be your only baby! He is so loving and just needs time to adjust to a new home and environment. He needs a family that will give him time and have patience with him while he is settling into his new home. He is so loyal and will love you forever!

Story
Lennon and Lainey are sisters and a bonded pair! That means they have to be adopted to the same home and cannot be separated. They are both house-trained, loving, and energetic! Lennon is the more social dog of this duo, and she loves to play and talk with her sister. Lainey is a bit more shy, but once she opens up, she is talkative as well! They are both very playful and sweet. We recommend a dog meet and greet with any dogs you currently own just to ensure they all get along!

Story
I found Whiskey and his 9 siblings on a very busy road in the country, talked around to neighbors and found the “owners” who were just feeding them but not keeping them contained. So, I rescued the whole litter and working on getting them all UTD on vaccinations, spay/neuter, wellness exam, heartworm neg. and microchipped. Every single one of the pups are SO SO sweet and docile! They are all living in my backyard with adequate shelter during this time. Looking for rescue or direct adoption.

Story
Bart was found with his brother Bruno by chasing my car on a busy country highway. I stopped and found “owners” but reality was, the boy’s mom was dumped on a very old man last year and he kept her, then she had 6 puppies. These 2 he was not able to find homes for and they grew too large for him to care for adequately so he was just feeding and housing them when they chose to be inside, which wasn’t often. These boys were running at large chasing cars and killing neighbors chickens. So, I took them in and they are learning all the normal house dog things! We go on a few walks every day and they’re both adapting very well. They are crate trained and potty trained. We will start working on house training soon. They’re both big teddy bears. Bart is VERY submissive! He is great at rolling over and playing dead 😂 Bart has his DA2PL shot, rabies shot, heartworm negative (and on prevention), and neutered!

These pups are in Bolivar, Missouri too!

Story
Hello there, I'm Rubi. My mom was full Belgian Malinois and my dad was half Golden Retriever and half Lab! I found myself at the shelter because my sister and I like to chase chickens. Life in the shelter is okay, but I dream of a home where I can show my sweet and friendly nature. I'm a bit shy at first, but once I get to know you, we'll be best friends. I'm hoping for a patient person who will give me time to come out of my shell. I promise, I'm worth it. With a little love and patience, I know I can be the perfect companion. Adopt me and let's make beautiful memories together. If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to request an appointment to meet me. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. No need to call to find out about me, you can ask questions on the application or email questions to info@polkcountyhumanesociety.org. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and Minneapolis, MN areas twice a month. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual and we will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veteinarian ($35). Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! ##2032133##
