You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. CHIP was saved from a kill shelter in Georgia and arrived at Give a Dog a Home Rescue, in Sebec, Maine on 5 April 2024. CHIP is neutered, rabies, core vaccines, monthly preventatives, heartworm and tick disease tested negative and is microchipped with 24PetWatch. He has an estimated date of birth of 26 March 2023 and in April 2024 weighed 28 pounds. We have no way of knowing the breed, it is up to individuals to look at the pictures and videos to make up their own mind. CHIP is adorable, smart, high energy, loving, affectionate, fun, goofy and did I mention high energy? He shares a kennel with two dogs that came from Oman and has been great in helping them adapt and has been teaching them how to play, wrestle and enjoy toys - something they had not experienced before. Chip is true to his breed in that he can be a little mouthy and he does like to let you know how he is feeling when you are not paying him the attention he deserves and thinks he needs lol. Chip needs an active family and one that understands the breed and that they are a herding breed, they can get nippy if they are not taught to not do that. He is super smart, a lot of fun and will learn quick and will be the best companion to the right family. We take a lot of pictures and videos and don't always have the time to post them on the dogs individual webpage and adoption site, so we ask that you go to the rescue    YouTube channel    and    photo albums on our Facebook page    to see a LOT of pictures and videos. We are looking for families that have the lifestyle that the dog needs to lead a healthy, both mentally and physically life, who can afford a GOOD quality food, toys and treats and understand the importance of veterinary wellness checks. CHIP is located at the rescue in Sebec Maine and is available for a  reduced adoption  fee of $550. Interested families are required to complete our application process and once approved schedule an appointment to come to the rescue to meet and take home their new best friend. Our process takes 1-2 days as long as we are able to talk to references, so be prepared to be approved (hopefully) to adopt within a few days of submitting the adoption application. https://giveadogahome-rescue.rescuegroups.org/forms/form?formid=5838 HOUSE TRAINED - All of our dogs are located in the kennel building so we are not able to say if a dog is house-trained, however, they do have access and use the dog door to access their run, play area 24/7. FOOD - We feed a variety of high quality brands and flavors including, chicken, turkey, beef, lamb and fish generally alternated daily. CATS - We do not have cats in the kennels and are not able to say how our dogs are with cats. Story
Temperament - Rusty is an athletic and intelligent boy. - He enjoys opportunities to hang out with his people, go for long leashed walks. - Rusty came to us straight from 16 months tied outside, because of this, he is still learning manners. He needs reinforcement of his good behaviours. - Due to his limited time indoors, he could be curious initially in his new home. - He loves to snuggle on the couch and have your attention. - Bonds strongly with his people and rewards their efforts with love, loyalty and trust. - Rusty walks nicely on leash, takes good verbal cues, and greets people politely, but can get over excited. But in time and with consistency, this will be easy to manage. - Rusty may exhibit some reactivity to other dogs while behind a fence, but rarely reacts on leash, especially if he’s content, and busy. - Rusty has trouble socializing with other dogs, so interacting with other dogs is difficult, partially because of his herding instincts and his lack of socialization at a young age. Owner Suitability - Rusty’s energy level is moderate to high and would benefit from a family that can consistently commit to an exercise and ongoing training regiment. Rusty needs boundaries set immediately in his new home, and ample outlets for his energy and smarts. He would benefit greatly from classes in any canine sport which will also strengthen the bond with his person. - Rusty does exhibit prey drive; squirrels and birds and smaller animals would likely attract his attention. He needs to live in a home without cats, other small animals or young children. - He would be a good fit for a home with one or more adults. He could possibly do well in a home with dog-savvy kids around 12 years or older. - Rusty’s new family would need to recognize the things that stimulate him, resulting in his drive escalating, and understand when it’s time to remove him from the situation. Consistent reinforcement of his good behaviour will be important. - Rusty spent more than 1 yr of his life tied up. This CANNOT happen in his new home, as he could regress and become unmanageable in the house. - A fenced yard is a must. Given his natural curiosity and drive, he’ll need a secure space to be off-leash at home to continue to thrive. - Rusty is not a dog-park dog and is not well-suited to large social gatherings off leash. He is a very sweet and bright boy that would excel in a quiet, routine environment where he can be leash walked daily, with an opportunity to run without other dogs, and to explore, learn and play interactive games.
