Story
Hi there, I’m Donny and this is my sister, Marie! We were found abandoned together in a rural area with a small plate of food, with no one else around. When GHS staff arrived to bring us to safety that day, we were very cautious—I was a bit more confident than my sister Marie, but it still took over 6 hours to contain us both! Our past is unknown, but it’s likely we haven’t lived in a home before. Since arriving at the shelter in April and being afraid of doorways and leashes, we’ve come so far in getting used to a routine. Our friends at GHS love our sweet, affectionate sides; we’ve got impressive wiggle bums when we’re happy and we are friendly meeting new people. We love an adventure, too—especially if it involves swimming! If you have space in your life for two big, silly, sweet, playful dogs who need a family to finally call their own, it might just be us!OUR IDEAL HOME INVOLVES…CHILDREN: Teenagers should be okay, but no young children given our sensitive nature.OTHER DOGS: We’re happy together, but also do fabulously with other dogs and could enjoy a well-socialized dog who will help us build confidence!CATS: Yes, with a cat confident and experienced with large dogs.FIRST-TIME DOG OWNERS: No, we’re sensitive and would do best with someone who has dog experience.FENCED-IN YARD: Yes, so we have a safe place to lounge outside, which is one of our favorite things to do! A rural home without a fence may also be an option.HOUSING ENVIRONMENT: Any home with a private yard, or rural.SOMEONE HOME MOST OF THE DAY: Not necessarily.SOME OTHER THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT US…ACTIVITY LEVEL: Medium.HOUSE-TRAINED: Yes.If you think we would make a good match for your home, please click the `Adopt Me` button to apply!FOSTER US! We’re excited to be selected as part of the Paisley Project and we’re looking for a foster home! If your home environment matches what we’re looking for based on the information above, please consider applying to foster us. The Paisley Project aims to match selected, long-stay animals at GHS with fosters that can provide a home that gradually introduces them to the everyday experiences of life as a pet. Fosters will offer the routine, structure and stability needed to help get animals ready for their new family. Learn more & apply at guelphhumane.ca/the-paisley-project

Story
Hi there, I’m Firefly!I`m a fun boy with a charming personality! I`m great at fetch and will stay in a down position, waiting patiently, until you throw the ball for me to expertly chase and return back to you. I`m so smart and agile - when I see a `wet floor` sign in the hallway, I naturally jump over it without even being asked! I can be vocal and bark at things but I just tell the humans that I`m doing my heeler job! When I make human friends, I do like to jump up and lick your face! I can be a lot when meeting new dogs by barking at them, but as long as they aren`t turned off by my loud `hello`, I enjoy playing with other dogs! I am a lap dog so I hope that you are comfortable with 73 lbs in your lap!MY IDEAL HOME INVOLVES…CHILDREN: I would do best in an adult-only home, but could potentially live with some respectful teenagers.OTHER DOGS: Potentially, while I enjoy playing with other dogs, I don`t love sharing them with my humans, so if I were to live with a dog in the home, it would have to be a particular, easy-going pooch; otherwise, I could have dog friends outside the home.CATS: No, given my prey drive.FIRST-TIME DOG OWNERS: Someone with dog and or herding breed experience would be most ideal.FENCED-IN YARD: Required, to help meet energy needs. Rural, un-fenced, would also be excellent!HOUSING ENVIRONMENT: Any with a yard.SOMEONE HOME MOST OF THE DAY: Not necessarily.SOME OTHER THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT ME…ACTIVITY LEVEL: Medium-high.HOUSE-TRAINED: Yes.If you are interested in adopting me, please click the `Adopt Me` button to apply!FOSTER ME!
