Story
Meet Orion, Indra, Vesper, and Zephyr — four 11-week-old Mountain Cur/Heeler mixes who are smart, spunky, and ready to take on the world… preferably with you right by their side. These pups are: • Very friendly and love everyone they meet • Big fans of kids and other dogs • Curious, confident, and incredibly smart • Still learning the fine art of house training (they are babies, after all) • Always up for an adventure Because of their Cur/Heeler mix, they will do best with active families who enjoy walks, playtime, training, and mental enrichment. Training will be important, but the good news is these puppies are eager learners and very willing to please. They are the kind of pups who thrive with structure, consistency, and a sense of purpose. Cats are… questionable 😅 Not aggressive, just fully convinced cats are the world’s most exciting toys. Slow introductions and supervision will be key. 🎁 Christmas wish: a couch to crash on, a family to grow up with, and someone who understands that smart puppies need guidance just as much as cuddles. 📍 Apply to adopt at: https://www.ashlandhumane.org/adoption-application

Story
Meet Indra! This adorable thing is a female Cattle Dog/Mountain Cur Mix who is 11 weeks old (DOB 9/26/25) who currently weighs 10.6 pounds. She is all things puppy! Clumsy, nosy, naps alot, no sense of personal space and did we mention adorable?! We are predicting she will be less than 50 pounds when full grown, but we have not seen mom or dad, so there is no guarantee. Indra will be spayed on December 17 and will be available on December 18, 19 or 20. This dog will need consistent training and socialization, as well as A LOT of physical and mental stimulation. She is going to try to herd everything in sight. If you aren't committed to the training, this is not the dog for you. We are not likely to approve this dog to an apartment dweller. Australian Cattle Dogs (ACDs) can be excellent, loyal, and rewarding pets for the right active family that understands their high energy, intelligence, and need for a "job," but they are not ideal for sedentary owners or first-timers, as they require significant physical and mental stimulation, proper training, and early socialization to prevent destructive behaviors or herding/nipping at kids. They bond deeply with their owners, making them devoted companions, but their intense protective nature and herding instincts need an outlet. According to Google, the Mountain Cur's high energy levels mean they need regular exercise and mental stimulation to keep them happy and healthy. Mountain Cur dogs do best in a home with an active, outdoorsy family who spends their weekends hiking, hunting, or just hanging out in their fenced-in yard They are naturally courageous, intelligent, and loyal, with strong protective instincts that make them excellent watchdogs. They are a high prey drive driven working dog with a loud bark. Getting them as a puppy and training them properly is key. Indra is a cast off from an high volume breeder in Amish country who came in as part of a load of rescues. That doesn't mean there is anything wrong with these dogs. They could have been the wrong color, size, fur, whatever. We are lucky enough to work with a vet in the area who cares enough to scoop up these dogs and get them adopted instead of ........?? Adoption fee is $500 All Ashland County Humane Society animals' adoption fees include: ~spay/neuter ~micro-chip ~de-worming ~vaccinations, including rabies ~heartworm prevention If you are interested in adopting this dog, please visit: www.ashlandhumane.org/adoption-application (copy and paste link to address bar) for a printable application. Complete and email back to applications@AshlandHumane.org We are an all volunteer-based organization that does not have a building or a staff, only 8 members with jobs and families, trying to make a difference. We do not have the volunteer manpower to show animals to non-approved applicants. If your application gets screened and approved, we will contact you to arrange a meet and greet and you can decide if this is the right pet for you. Thank you for understanding! We definitely want all our rescued animals to find great families! Thank you for your interest in a Rescue Pet! Adopt, don't shop! The post will be removed when we get several applications to give our volunteer time to screen them. Adoption Fee is $500
