Story
Meet Bullet! This adorable thing is a male Cattle Dog/Mountain Cur Mix DOB 9/26/25, who currently weighs 26 pounds. He is all things puppy! Clumsy, nosy, naps alot, no sense of personal space and did we mention adorable?! We are predicting he will be less than 50 pounds when full grown, but we have not seen mom or dad, so there is no guarantee. Meet Bullet Australian Cattle Dogs and possible Mountain Cur mixes, about 5 months old, and packed with smart personalities and energy. These are not couch potato puppies. They are smart, driven, and thrive with structure, training, and consistency. A home that understands active working breeds will be their sweet spot. Both puppies have been around kids and other animals and do great with other dogs. Cats are a maybe. They think chasing is a fun game, so a cat savvy or cat free home would be best. They are very food motivated, eager to learn, and love having a job or task to focus on. They have been in foster care since before Christmas and have done really well. They are crate trained, have very few accidents in the house, and walk nicely on a leash. Their fosters have put in the work and it shows. Bullet and Indra are fully vetted and ready to go. These two have waited long enough and are truly ready for families who will commit to their training, give them outlets for their energy, and make them part of daily life. In return, you get loyal, fun, intelligent dogs who want nothing more than to learn and belong. They are mostly house trained, but are puppies so you have to keep up on it and expect a possible accident Adoption fee is $400 All Ashland County Humane Society animals' adoption fees include ~spay/neuter ~micro-chip ~de-worming ~vaccinations, including rabies ~heartworm prevention If you are interested in adopting this dog, please visit: www.ashlandhumane.org/adoption-application (copy and paste link to address bar) for a printable application. Story
Meet Indra! This adorable thing is a female Cattle Dog/Mountain Cur Mix who is 11 weeks old (DOB 9/26/25) who currently weighs 10.6 pounds. She is all things puppy! Clumsy, nosy, naps alot, no sense of personal space and did we mention adorable?! We are predicting she will be less than 50 pounds when full grown, but we have not seen mom or dad, so there is no guarantee. Indra will be spayed on December 17 and will be available on December 18, 19 or 20. This dog will need consistent training and socialization, as well as A LOT of physical and mental stimulation. She is going to try to herd everything in sight. If you aren't committed to the training, this is not the dog for you. We are not likely to approve this dog to an apartment dweller. Australian Cattle Dogs (ACDs) can be excellent, loyal, and rewarding pets for the right active family that understands their high energy, intelligence, and need for a "job," but they are not ideal for sedentary owners or first-timers, as they require significant physical and mental stimulation, proper training, and early socialization to prevent destructive behaviors or herding/nipping at kids. They bond deeply with their owners, making them devoted companions, but their intense protective nature and herding instincts need an outlet. According to Google, the Mountain Cur's high energy levels mean they need regular exercise and mental stimulation to keep them happy and healthy. Mountain Cur dogs do best in a home with an active, outdoorsy family who spends their weekends hiking, hunting, or just hanging out in their fenced-in yard They are naturally courageous, intelligent, and loyal, with strong protective instincts that make them excellent watchdogs. They are a high prey drive driven working dog with a loud bark. Getting them as a puppy and training them properly is key. Indra is a cast off from an high volume breeder in Amish country who came in as part of a load of rescues. That doesn't mean there is anything wrong with these dogs. They could have been the wrong color, size, fur, whatever. We are lucky enough to work with a vet in the area who cares enough to scoop up these dogs and get them adopted instead of ........??
