Story
Molly is a petite, calm Aussie who is slowly discovering a world she never knew. She has been in foster care for two weeks and is already making progress, coming out of her shell a little more each day. Molly came from a breeder situation and is still very wary of people in general. She has especially bonded with her foster mom, following her around the house and happily greeting her when she comes home. She hasn’t yet warmed up to her foster dad and will grumble, pull away, or retreat to her safe spot near foster mom or into her crate. She needs someone who will be patient, respectful of her boundaries, and allow trust to develop at her own pace. When left home alone, Molly is happy to relax in her crate and has shown no destructive behaviors. She is also potty trained and has a very sweet way of letting you know she needs to go out — she’ll gently bump your leg! Molly likes toys, although she isn’t quite sure what she’s supposed to do with them yet. Once she is finished with her heartworm treatment, it will be so much fun to help her discover the joys of play, training, and all the little things that make being a dog wonderful. She is a gentle treat taker and is already showing us that she can learn. Molly enjoys the company of other dogs and will likely benefit from having a canine companion once she has completed her heartworm treatment. For now, however, she would do best with either no other dog or a calm, well-behaved canine who won’t overwhelm her. She has done well with a bath, sleeps peacefully in the bedroom on her own bed next to her foster mom, and enjoys cats in a friendly and gentle way. She currently shows very little herding instinct around them, although that could change as she becomes more confident. Molly does startle easily around people, though noises don't seem to bother her. Because of this, she is looking for an adult home or one without small children for now. Molly isn't looking for a family who expects her to become a confident, outgoing dog overnight. She's looking for someone who understands that trust is earned, not rushed. With patience, consistency, and lots of love, this sweet little Aussie has the potential to blossom into an incredibly special companion.
