Story
** PLEASE READ HIS DESCRIPTION BEFORE CALLING/APPLYING! ** His super cute looks are deceiving! Roger is a "project dog"! Which means he will need on-going training and is ONLY available to an SF Bay Area experienced, sport dog home. Roger is a 8 year old, 10lb Australian Terrier/Jack Russell mix, and this guy is ALL terrier!! (His personality is probably closest to that of a Jack Russell) He loves to play with other small dogs, is good with cats (although sometimes he wants to play with them if they run). He LOVES to play (can’t say this enough), and he is very high energy. He has learned a handful of tricks (is a titled Advanced Trick Dog), and he competes in USDAA Agility (with two titles already- SPS and PD)!, so he must go to a home that can continue dog sports with him, and keep him very active, both mentally and physically. He’s like the energizer bunny, and he is one of the smartest dogs we have ever met, scary smart! He does also love to snuggle with his person and give kisses. He’s crate-trained and housebroken. His only issue (besides his energy and intelligence level) is *fear aggression toward strangers* (will bite if a stranger approaches, reaches their hand for/toward him, or spooks him), but with lots of patience, management, training (counter conditioning), and carefully monitored socialization, his fear has decreased, but it may never go completely away, so you can never let your guard down with him. He has gotten a LOT better in his foster home over the last several years, but will need someone to continue the right kind of training with him. He does seem to warm up much faster to young women than to older people or men. This is why he’d do best in a home with NO children and with someone experienced with terrier or high energy breeds (like herding dogs) and near-professional dog behavior experience. Once you give this dog a chance, you will fall in love! He’s really such an absolutely brilliant dog, the life of the party! Roger has been in rescue since 3/2011. Roger is neutered, up to date on his shots, microchipped, and will come with a collar, harness, leash, and bag of food! All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, shots current (DHPP, Bordetella and Rabies where applicable), dewormed, flea and tick treated, and microchipped.  * If you are interested in a dog, please first read the biography on the dog (keep scrolling down for the bio!) and then go to our website, www.dpsrescue.com for an application. Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee.Adoption Fee: $600   Naples is a 3 year old Westie x Shih Tzu mix who is ready for his next passport stamp: his forever home! Naples came to us from the local shelter. We don’t know how this guy landed in the shelter but we know that his next chapter is bright and will be full of yummy snacks and warm beds. With a fabulous head of hair and a unique looking cute face, Naples will be the Cassanova of every dog park he struts into. Naples has a hair coat but is not hypoallergenic. For those looking for a fun-loving new family member, Naples is ready for action!     Naples is a friendly, toy-loving, and adorable dog with a heart of gold. He is Mr. Independent but also Mr. “Wait Cuddle Me” which makes him a perfect fit for those looking for either a WFH buddy or an adventure buddy. He loves clambering up on the couch for long naps during the day, but is also standing at the door when the leashes come out for walk time. In the evening, his tail is thumping on the couch as he awaits a cuddle marathon. Naples has the perfect temperament in that he is both active and laid back. While he has moments of high energy, he also likes to explore the world at a leisurely pace. He doesn’t so much romp around with the other dogs but they coexist happily.   Naples starts his morning at 6:30 AM with a trip outside for potty before he comes back inside for some more sleep. He has breakfast at around 9 AM and then heads out for his morning walk around the neighborhood. He loves greeting his local canine friends and has a blast. Throughout the day, Naples plays with his foster siblings in the backyard and gets his tan on in the sunshine. In the late afternoon, Naples gets another walk and happily sniffs all the good smells the outdoors has to offer. After he returns, he gets his play on as his dinner is prepared. He loves his collection of toys and happily encourages his foster siblings to play with him. He eats dinner at 6 PM and then engages in more playtime as his foster mom eats. In the evening, Naples gets some cuddles on the couch before he heads to his crate for sleep at 10 PM.  Naples gets along fabulously with the dogs he is living with. They are all bigger than him but this little Napoleon doesn’t let that stop him. Naples walks well on the leash and adores his walk times. His tail wags so fast when the leashes come out! Naples will be such a fabulous addition to whoever is lucky enough to bring him home. If you’re looking for a taste of Italy right here in California, meet Naples!     Naples is an option for homes with prior dog experience. We will consider first-time homes as long as they demonstrate they have done their research on dog ownership. Kids in the home should be over the age of 8.April 25, 2024, 1:42 pm
