She’s a bright, curious, and deeply devoted little dog who has truly blossomed in foster care. Her day usually starts between 7–8am, and by around 7:30 she’ll politely (and sometimes not so quietly) let you know she’s awake and ready to start the day. Impressively, Basket mastered the dog door within her very first week and now confidently takes herself outside to potty as needed, with only a few early accidents. Breakfast is a highlight for her: wetted kibble topped with roasted chicken, which she eats enthusiastically before heading back out to explore or play. Mid-morning is one of her favorite times of day. Around 10am, Basket meets up in the backyard with another foster dog next door, along with her foster’s own dog, for about 40 minutes of supervised zoomies, sniffing, and joyful exploration. She absolutely loves having dog friends to romp with. The rest of the day is a pleasant mix of activity and rest: she comes in and out through the dog door, empties the toy box regularly, plays with every toy she can find (including the occasional sock or even a tangerine peel), and then crashes hard for a well-earned snooze in her dog bed or near her person. Basket is a classic velcro dog. She wants to be in the same room as her human at all times, whether that means lying at their feet while they work, nearby with a toy, or curled up close for a nap. In the evenings, she truly shines as a cuddle companion, relaxing on the couch and soaking up affection. She would happily sit on a lap all day if invited. On walks, Basket has energy to spare. She currently gets a 20-minute walk in the afternoon and would likely benefit from two walks a day in addition to her zoomie time. She tends to pull a bit on leash, especially if walking with another dog, and may bark at other dogs (but it's all just enthusiasm and overexcitement!). Her foster manages this by creating space and arcing away from triggers. She can also get distracted easily, so continued leash training will help her thrive. Basket lives with an older, friendly female dog and generally does well, though she has had a couple of brief skirmishes over toys where her terrier side makes an appearance. These moments are short-lived, and she calms quickly with redirection. She has previously lived with multiple dogs and enjoyed their company. During the day, she’s happy lounging in her dog bed. When her foster leaves, she may cry briefly, but she settles, especially with classical music playing. Basket is playful, energetic, and then suddenly a complete couch potato. She loves chew treats, toys, zooming, and shredding the occasional paper napkin if bored. She may bark a bit at new people initially but warms up quickly and becomes extremely affectionate once she feels safe. She’s also smart and adaptable. Basket sits on command for treats and for leash time, learned the dog door remarkably fast, and tolerates handling very well. She enjoys apples and nuts, sometimes watches TV, and seems very used to gentle, hands-on care. Her foster’s favorite thing about her? Basket is a total lovebug. Sweet, loyal, and endlessly cuddly, she forms strong bonds and gives her whole heart. She’s the kind of dog who makes you feel truly chosen—and once you’re her person, she’ll never want to be far from your side.December 26, 2025, 6:40 pm
