Story
I got Fudge a year ago through a privately-arranged surrender. Her previous owner could no longer take care of her due to housing issues. When I first adopted her, I had a work from home job, but about 7 months ago I started a new job that has me out of the house for 8+ hours a day. She is showing signs of anxiety (thinning hair, destroying household objects) and clearly needs more time and attention than I can currently give her. I tried sending her to daycare but it was cost prohibitive for me and the behaviors persisted so it really wasn't worth it. I live alone and I'm finding that the stress of trying to provide for Fudge's needs, to no avail, is getting to be too much for me to handle. It makes me so sad to give her up, but I know that I am at my max capacity and can't give her what she needs and deserves.

Story
After a long hard day, what could be better than coming home to a sweet, cuddly Guinness? No, were not talking about the Irish stout beverage! We're talking about this short and stout hippo dog! Guinness was found alone in Ryan Park by a couple Good Samaritans who brought him to the animal shelter but he was not claimed by anyone. So, what have we learned about Guinness since he's been with us? Well, we've learned that he loves toys and seems to really need play time with tough toys that he can chew on, throw around and "tackle". He enjoys "sniffari" walks where he can take his time smelling all the things! Most recently, we learned that Guinness enjoys belly flopping into big puddles! We would not necessarily describe him as high energy but he does need a moderate amount of exercise and play. Guinness has also enjoyed training and training games. He is working hard on learning that he doesn't need to jump up for attention and that when he isn't sure what to do, he can look to his person for direction and reassurance. Since we do not know anything about Guinness' life before he arrived at the shelter, we cannot be sure about how he feels about other animals or kids. Due to his wrecking ball play style, we feel he would do best in a household with kids over the age of 12. Guinness is believed to be about two years old, is neutered and up to date on vaccinations. At his most recent vet visit, we learned that one of Guinness' knee caps tends to slide in and out of place, known as luxating patella. This is not terribly surprising given his build. We are planning to have Guinness seen by a specialist for further evaluation of his knee and we will work with Guinness' adopter to try and ensure that this isn't a barrier to adoption. If you are interested in learning more about Guinness or would like to arrange a time to meet him, please call: 401-910-8999 or email: nkassf1@gmail.com
