Story
Trudy is a beautiful redtick coonhound who was rescued several months ago from life on a chain in West Virginia. Her Massachusetts fosters report that Trudy is an absolute joy. She is very well behaved. She does not counter surf and is not a big jumper and would probably do well with children. She is not a huge fan of the cold and snow, however she has discovered some holes in the snow in the backyard where animals have burrowed and enjoys rooting them out! She was totally housebroken before the snow arrived, but now needs some coaxing to stay outside, but she's getting used to it. Trudy has not had a lot of interaction with other dogs but she will stand up for herself if another dog is overly dominant. She would be fine as an only dog or with a more submissive independent dog. She is not very interested in playing with other dogs. Trudy really likes to be with her people and is most content when she is with - or can at least see her fosters. She loves to cuddle on the sofa and is a great companion with many good points. She's not a big barker/bayer; she doesn't bother the family at mealtime; she's getting used to her crate and will sometimes go in on her own to chew on a toy or have some quiet time. She sleeps quietly through the night on her own bed near the family. She doesn't mind the car and settles down for longer drives. Trudy would be happiest in a home where someone is there a lot. She is an amazing girl and would make someone individually, a couple with no children, or a family very, very happy. Trudy is 4 - 5 yrs old and weighs 57 lbs. Trudy is available for visits north of Boston. If you’d like to apply to adopt, please submit an application using the link below. Story
Mercy was adopted from NECR in the Fall of 2022 and has been returned to the rescue due to an unfortunate change in her adopter's situation. Sadly, one owner recently passed away, and the other partner is dealing with a move and some medical problems. Mercy has enjoyed a happy 3.5 years with several walks a day, trips to the beach and lots of love and attention. She's a typical hound but a pretty easy companion. Mercy is housebroken, knows a few obedience commands, easily engages with people and is excited to greet and receive attention and petting. She has never displayed guarding behaviors or aggression. She's accustomed to a few long walks every day and goes out on a runner to potty in the yard. She's used to walking on a leash but might pull if she sees squirrels or other critters. Mercy likes to sleep in a dog bed near her owners but may also wander off to sleep in the living room. She was initially crated when no one was home but has not been destructive and is now allowed to be loose in the house. Before Mercy was rescued from a Kentucky shelter, she was attacked by another dog and required surgery to her abdomen. While that has healed, the memory remains and she may be defensive around certain dogs. Her current owners take her to the dog park regularly where she gets along with most dogs but had a couple of incidents with a certain large breed, so care should be taken in that situation. She may be fine with another dog in the home but would be perfectly happy as an only dog. Mercy is 5.5 yrs old and weighs about 60 lbs. She is available for visits in southern NH.
