Story
Meet Penny: Your Quiet, Devoted Shadow 🧡
Age: 1.5 years
Breed: Petite Redtick Coonhound
Weight: 42 lbs (perfectly sized for couch cuddles)
A Little Fawn with a Big Heart
Penny is a truly special girl—her soft golden coat and delicate ticking give her the look of a baby deer, complete with the gentlest, velvety ears. She’s petite for a hound, but what she lacks in size, she makes up for in sweetness.
The Dream House Companion
If you’re looking for a calm, low-maintenance, peaceful presence in your home, Penny is it:
House-trained & reliable: Still learning to go to the door but hasn’t had accidents, comfortable staying home during the workday, and sleeps soundly through the night either downstairs or with her human sister upstairs.
Quiet & gentle: Rarely barks, non-destructive, and happy to relax while you go about your day
Her Story & Her Heart
Penny was found as a stray in Virginia alongside her sister and before being brought to New Jersey, she experienced the loss of that bond. Since then, she’s shown incredible resilience—but also a sensitivity that shapes what she needs next.
She is fearful of men and has not been able to settle with them in her foster homes. Because of this, Penny is seeking a female-only home, where she feels safe and can truly relax.
With women, Penny blossoms. She bonds quickly and beautifully—transforming from shy to affectionate, greeting her person with a full “helicopter tail” and gentle kisses. She loves to quietly follow her person from room to room, simply happy to be close. While she’s still building confidence, she already enjoys being lifted into a lap for snuggles.
Smart, Sensitive, and Ready to Learn
Penny is bright and responsive, already understanding cues like “leave it,” “wait,” and “this way.” With patience and consistency, she’ll thrive and continue building confidence in her forever home.
Simple Joys Outdoors
She doesn’t need intense exercise—just space to be herself:
Zoomies in a fenced yard (her happy place!)
Peaceful trail walks—she does great on a long lead and loves to sniff, explore, and wait or you to catch up
Quiet strolls in calm areas (while she’s not afraid o cars, she gets nervous around loud or busy environments like sports games in the park or kid riding bikes & scooters)
Her Perfect Match
Penny is looking for a calm, loving home where she can feel safe and understood:
Female-only household
Fenced yard for safe play
Quiet neighborhood or access to nature
The Bottom Line
Penny isn’t just a dog—she’ll be a deeply loyal companion once she finds her perfect home. Give her a little patience, and she’ll give you her whole heart.
