Story
Meet Watermelon, Cantaloupe, Honeydew, and Gaya! These ladies are 12 week old English Springer Spaniel mixes who were saved from a commercial breeding facility in Lancaster county due not being sold quickly enough. Sadly, this happens all the time due to the alarmingly high amount of dogs that puppy mills are constantly producing. It is simply easier for them to give the older puppies up as they don't care how much they use and abuse their breeding mothers, making them produce litter after litter. These sweethearts are understandably shy and nervous at first, but are doing a great job learning to trust new people! As with all dogs we save from puppy mills, they will need a family who is understanding and prepared to work through a period of transition with them as they learn to live in a house and around people. They will need time to trust their new family before working on training, such as house training. This should go without saying, but we require all our animals to be trained using positive reinforcement methods ONLY. Puppy mill dogs tend to do best in a home without young children as well (10+), though this determination is made on a case by case basis. These are high energy hunting breed dogs and will require a very active family up to the task of providing them the ample physical and mental exercise they require. Hunting breed experience is strongly preferred. If you are interested in being considered for them please apply on our website at www.angelsretreat.org

Story
Nashville is looking for a new owner without children or other pets, who is willing to create a consistent, safe space in exchange for a loyal, sweet friend. Nashville is a 7-year-old English Springer Spaniel. We adopted him as a puppy from a local breeder. He is a smart dog, who knows more than 10 commands (including sit, down, off, and stay). He loves to play fetch; the perfect owner would have time and space to play. He is a big snuggler around those he loves and enjoys cuddling in bed (although he is crate trained!). He has no health issues and has had consistent heartworm/flea/tick prevention. Nashville is fearful/anxious when meeting new people or animals and he has nipped people's hands when approached. Training has been helpful to prevent nipping, but he is still afraid of our toddler. We're heartbroken to rehome our fur baby, but we believe Nashville would thrive with a patient, loving owner who has experience with anxious dogs.

Story
Angus will tolerate the crate and is house trained. He is extremely vocal when he needs or wants anything, and will continue to vocalize until that need is met. For that reason, Angus will need someone that is often home and is willing to be very patient with him. He coexists well with dogs in his foster home, but is not super playful. A quieter home would be best, and being an only dog would be fine. He is untested with children and didn't exactly pass his cat test with flying colors. Angus could use continued leash work and seems to have some weakness in his hind legs. He will need regular grooming and is well behaved at those appointments. He loooooves snuggles! Does this hunky guy sound like the right fit for you? Apply today!
