Story
There is something incredibly endearing about Fern Flowers. Maybe it's the ears that look like they can't quite decide whether they want to stand up or flop over. Maybe it's the delicate little way she walks toward you. Or maybe it's the fact that Fern isn't trying to impress anybody. She's simply herself. Sweet, gentle, soft-hearted, and quietly lovable. The funny thing is that the more time you spend with her, the more you realize just how special she is. She's the kind of dog that sneaks her way into your heart when you aren't paying attention.

Fern Flowers is approximately 1 year old, weighs around 27 lbs, and we believe she may be an Italian Greyhound/Miniature Pinscher mix. With rescue it's always a mystery and we can never guarantee breed or age.
Fern is one of the sweetest girls you'll ever meet. She can be a little shy when first entering a new environment or meeting new people, but she's not difficult, dramatic, or high maintenance about it. She simply likes a minute to take everything in. Even when she's unsure, she's incredibly tolerant and gentle. She'll happily accept affection, allow handling, and be near her people while she figures things out. Then before you know it, you'll start seeing little tail wags, soft approaches, and her sweet personality begin to shine through.
One of our favorite things about Fern is how she asks for affection. She doesn't come barreling into your lap demanding attention. Instead, she'll slowly make her way over with these tiny, dainty little steps and gently lean into you as if she's politely asking for some love. It's one of the sweetest things ever and somehow makes you feel like you've been chosen.
Another fast track to Fern's heart? Snacks. This girl loves treats, takes treats incredibly gently, and is very food motivated. If you've got treats and a soft baby voice, you're already making excellent progress. In fact, we're pretty sure Fern secretly loves being told how pretty she is.
Fern is crate trained and very quiet in her crate. She's also potty trained and has proven herself to be an easy little houseguest. Overall, she's the type of dog that settles nicely into a routine and enjoys a calm, predictable lifestyle.
When it comes to other dogs, Fern would benefit from continued socialization and slow introductions. She seemed a bit unsure meeting some of the dogs we have introduced to her and preferred observing rather than jumping right into the action. She showed the most interest in a smaller dog named Dime and was much more comfortable interacting with him. While she wasn't interested in playing, she was curious, polite, and willing to engage. We think Fern will likely need a little time to settle into a new home before feeling fully comfortable around resident dogs, and would do best with respectful dogs that won't overwhelm her.
Fern also did well meeting our house cat, Biggie. She was polite, respectful, and more interested in giving him a sniff than causing any trouble. She didn't chase him, wasn't bothered by his movements, and overall handled the interaction appropriately.
On leash, Fern does well but can occasionally need a little encouragement at the beginning of a walk. Once she gets going, she settles in nicely. She can be sensitive to loud noises and unexpected things in the environment, which is why we think she'd be happiest in a home with a backyard in a quieter residential area rather than an apartment in a busy city setting. She's a little more of a peaceful neighborhood girl than a downtown girl.
What Fern really needs is a family that understands she may need a little decompression time in the beginning. Not because she's difficult, but because she's thoughtful. She likes to get her bearings before fully settling in. Give her a little patience and you'll be rewarded with an incredibly sweet, affectionate companion who loves deeply and forms beautiful bonds with her people. If you're looking for a gentle, loving best friend with adorable ears, a sweet soul, and the cutest little way of asking for affection, Fern might just be your girl. She's the kind of dog that gets better and better every day you know her, and we have a feeling whoever adopts her is going to feel very lucky they did.
We are willing to test Fern Flowers with anything you need in order to ensure it's a perfect match. We can make anything happen! Just let us know.
