Shelter FAQs

The Sarnia & District Humane Society is an open door facility which takes in all stray, unwanted or surrendered animals. Each animal that comes into our care is provided all necessary medical treatments, including spay/neuter before being adopted out. We strive to place each animal in a home that will meet their needs for the rest of their life.
We uphold all municipal bylaws for Lambton County and also oversee Investigations of Cruelty and Neglect for Lambton, Chatham-Kent and Huron Counties.
All municipalities in Lambton County including the
City of Sarnia

Adoption steps

  1. Visit the Facility and Find a Pet
  2. Meet the Pet
    1. All persons living in the home must meet the animal and approve the adoption including other dogs who may reside at the premises.
  3. Submit Application
    1. Our application process is not based on first come, first get the animal. Animals are placed in the best suited home.
  4. Home Check
    1. Many times, with dog adoptions, home checks are done to ensure the dogs needs will be met
  5. Approve Application
    1. Once your application is approved, we will make arrangements to have you come in to finalize the paperwork and set a time to pick up
  6. Sign Adoption Contract
    1. Adoption contract is signed, fees are paid and the animal is picked up
