Adoption steps
- Submit Application
- Application to adopt and instructions to submit found here: https://www.sandovalcountynm.gov/departments/community-services/animal-welfare/
- Meet the Pet
- Meet and greet at your house or admin kennels in Bernalillo.
- Home Check
- Home visit to ensure the pet fits in well and check for any potential hazards in the home (holes in the fence, items to chew on, etc).
- Sign Adoption Contract
- After or within a 30 day trial period, you may finalize your adoption by signing a contract which transfers ownership to the adopter.
Additional adoption info
If the home visit goes well and the adopter wants to move forward we will leave the pet in their possession and allow them to "foster" for up to two weeks to make their final decision. If the decision is to adopt, we will finalize paperwork, collect the adoption fee, and transfer all information to the new adopters.
