Dog House Animal Rescue

We are a dedicated team of volunteers that are passionate about animal welfare and give our time, resources and hearts to the pursuit of ending animal abuse and homelessness. When we started DHR we made a commitment that every animal that walks through our doors, receives our support for the rest of their lives, regardless of the circumstances. We strive to not only inspire more animal advocates like us, to join our team, but to educate and make an impact on the cycle of abuse and neglect in our communities. We recognize that without the tireless work of our volunteers, we would not be able to execute our mission, and strive to create and foster an environment of inclusion and appreciation, to all those involved in our DHR family.

Additional adoption info

Adopting a animal requires your time, patience and an amazing decision to stand up against animal overpopulation and homelessness.

While in foster care, animals are assessed, vetted and reminded that they belong in a loving home. Once we get to know each animal a little better we will post a detailed description of their personalities, and what type of home would be best suited to each individual animal. While we do not discriminate potential loving homes based on if their yards are fenced in or if they share their walls with any neighbors, we do ask that potential adopters take their time to read our biographies carefully and provide honest and complete applications to ensure our animals find their forever homes the first time.

Once your application is received, one of our super-human volunteers will review your application and determine if you would be a good match. While we will always try our best to respond to every inquiry within 72 hours please remember that as amazing as our volunteers are, they have families, jobs and their own fur babies to attend to as well. Additionally, none of our members are compensated for donating for their generous time, so a zero tolerance policy is in place for any harassing (including excessive messages), threatening or aggressive messages or comments.

If your application is accepted, a member of our team will be in touch as soon as possible to arrange a home visit at which time all family members (of all species) must be present. If a mutually convenient time cannot be arranged within two weeks DHR reserves the right to move on to the next application. Following a successful home visit a DH representative will invite you to visit the animal you have applied for at their foster home or a public area the animal is familiar and comfortable with so adopters can see the true personality of the animal prior to adoption.

Once you have had the opportunity to meet your potential new addition, a member of our team will contact you to discuss your meet and greet. If all parties agree the perfect home has been found then we will send you our adoption contract. Once the completed contract and adoption donation have been received, arrangements can be made right away to pick up your pup! Please note we do not hold dogs in care as this means another dog misses the opportunity for a second chance, so please ensure it not only is this dog a great fit for your current situation (not in a few weeks or months) when deciding to proceed to the application.

Dogs, like people, take time to adjust to new circumstances and will need time to adjust to your home and their new family. Over time, with consistent training and boundaries the dog will begin to trust you, and feel more supported. So remember to be patient and ease into introductions to new people, animals, places, and dog welcome home parties. This will all help you and your dog have a healthy and successful relationship together.
