Rescue FAQs

Our mission is matching herders to humans in Southern California. Helping Herders Rescue is a foster-based 501(c)3 rescue dedicated to helping abandoned herding dogs recover, prepare for a family, and find great homes. We believe that every dog deserves to be treated with kindness and respect. We believe that good rescue involves foster homes. We believe that special needs dogs are extra special, so we look for extra special homes for them. We believe in the magic created when a great match is made between dogs and people. With the strength of shared beliefs, the natural partnership formalized in early 2016 in the form of Helping Herders Rescue, including a small, dedicated, and greatly appreciated network of foster homes.
Southern California, though we are open to qualified adopters out of the area if they are able to meet and adopt here.

Additional adoption info

We have some amazing dogs looking for just the right home.

To apply adopt a dog, you will be required to fill out an adoption questionnaire. We also require a home check and a vet reference. There is an adoption fee for each pet. The average adoption fee is $400 for puppies and $350 for adult dogs. All dogs are spayed/neutered, up to date on vaccinations, and microchipped.

We are a foster-based organization, meaning that all of our dogs are living with families in homes. We do not have a facility. Therefore, adoptions are made by appointment only.
