Shelter FAQs

Barbs dog rescue was started over 23 years ago by Barb. Puerto Peñasco has had a problem with spayed/neutering animals and Barb saw a need. She found a house just outside of town and started saving dogs off the street. Since then, her and her followers started Esperanza Spay/neuter clinic where any local can get their dog/cat spayed/neutered for free. Barb's Dog Rescue takes in street dogs, found abandoned in homes, owner surrendered, from animal control, from Puerto Peñasco, Caborca, and Mexicali. Ever dog is tested for tick fever, given flea n tick meds, vaccinated, and spayed/neutered before being adopted. We have between 350-450 dogs at all times, we are also a sanctuary for some. Since barb passed in June 2023, she set up an amazing board and staffing that will continue her dream.
